Abstract	A process for the production of a lubricating oil additive based on mineral oil concentrate of novel oil soluble partly aminated alkyl methacrylate polymer containing branched alkyl groups with 8 to 12 carbon atoms and having dispersancy and viscosity index improver properties consisting ofi (i) polymerising an alkyl methacrylate monomer with an initiator in a polymerisation medium at 50 to 150 C, aaid monomer containing branched chain alkyl groups with 8 to 12 carbon atoms, said initiator being an azo bis compound fiUCh as 2,2'-azobisisobuiyronitri-' le (AlBN) and capable of initiating the polymerisation reaction at 50 to 10ffu end constituting 0.1 to 2.Qf by weight of said monomer, said polymerisation medium consist!-ng of an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent having a boiling point of 70 to 150°C- and constituting 30 to 7Q8 by weight of the polymerisation reaction mixture; (ii) removing the solvent in the polymerisation reaction mixture in a known manner such as distillation; (iii) diluting the alkyl methacrylate polymer with a neutral mineral oil having a viscosity of 5 to 11 cSt at 100 C to obtain an oil concentrate containing 55 to 65% by weight of the polymer; (iv) reacting the oil concentrate of the polymer with an amine containing multirnitrogen linkage such as herein described at 150 to 220 C; and (v) removing the alcohol and unreacted amine from the reaction mixture in a known manner such as distillation under vacuum.

Abstract
