A WIND POWER CONVERTOR WITH VERTICAL SHAFT, TILTING SAILS AND A SAFETY DEVICE.

Abstract

A wind power converter with vertical shaft 0), tilting sails (4) and a safety device (H), comprising of a hollow central vertical main shaft, a pluraltiy of sails hinged vertically on a plurality of supporting frames (5) mounted on upper and lower ribo (1 & 2) fixed radially to the said central vertical shaft, the lower enda of the sailj on each supporting frame being connected vertically to each other by strings (16) and the upper no3t saila on each supporting frame having lever arms (18) with spring loading, a speed governor provided as a safety devic* sliding on the said central vertical shaft, the said speed governor (14) consisting of a drua (14A) with top flange (14B) and two hinged arms with weights at their free ends and lock pins (15), meshed in the slots .made on the central vertical shaft the speed governor is connected by nylon strings (9) passing over the pulleys, to the free end of the lsver arras (18) of the upper most saila on each supporting frame, the spedd governor also having connected by another nylong string (l6) passing over a pulley mounted on the top of the hollow central vertical shaft (3), and passing through the hollow vertical shaft (13), to the shaft coupling plate (lO), at the bottom of connecting shaft, the said coupling plate slides vertically in the slot at the lower end of the hollow vertical connecting ehaft and engaged in the 'V* notch of the shaft coupling. The entire assembly is mounted on a tripod {11}, with a thrust bearing.
