| Abstract | Abstract This invention concerns an improved process for the preparation of 4t4'-methylene bis (2t6-di-tert-butylphenol) synthetically fron 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol, The 2,6-di-tert-butyl-phenol is reacted with aliphatic aldehyde under inert condition under stirring in the presence of alcohol as solvent and alkali as catalyst till Buch time 4,4*-methylene bis (2,6-di-tert-butyl-phenol) is obtained* Thereafter 4,4*-methylene bis (2,6-di-tert-butyphenql) thue obtained is treated with boiling water under efficient nixing and the product is recovered. - The step of treatment with boiling water results in higher yielde of the pure product and the process is cost affective. |
