A synthetic layered material, MCM-56, has a 5 composition comprising the molar relationship x2o3:(n)YO2' wherein n is less than about 35, X is a trivalent element, and Y is a tetravalent element, and is further characterized by a sorption capacity for 1,3,5- 10 trimethylbenzene of at least about 35 ~l/gram of calcined synthetic material, an initial uptake of 15 mg of 2,2- dimethylbutane/gram of calcined synthetic material of less than about 20 seconds, and an X-ray diffraction pattern for the calcined synthetic material having d-spacing maxima at 15 12.4 I 0.2, 9.9 I 0.3, 6.9 I 0.1, 6.2 I 0.1, 3.55 I 0.07, and 3.42 I 0.07 Angstroms. |
