Full Text | The present invention relates to an improved means of rail fixing device for use in steel channel sleepers by means of improved steel canted bearing plates and improved clips. In some specific reason or for some specific purpose steel channel sleepers are being used in the track circuited areas of the railway. In the present system rail is fixed with mild steel canted bearing plate on steel channel and fixed by steel clips. The rails are electrically insulated from the canted bearing plate and steel clips in the track circuited areas of railways. This insulation is achieved by inserting a grooved rubber pad(GRP) in between the rail and the canted bearing plate and inserting a glass filled nylon (GFN) liner as a packing in between the rail and the steel clips. It is often found that the said insulated liner or packing and the grooved rubber pads, in between the rail, steel clips and canted bearing plates , slips out or displaced or broken or damaged creating the undesired short-circuit between the rail and the steel channel sleeper. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved rail fixing arrangement for use in steel channel sleepers comprising an improved built-in insulated canted bearing plate and built-in insulated steel clips for fixing rails over the canted bearing plate while built-in insulation will act as further accident proof protection. 2 According to the present invention there is provided ; An improved rail fixing device by means of improved steel canted bearing plate and improved steel clips comprising improved steel canted bearing plate and improved steel clips, wherein the improved steel canted bearing plate is provided with composite built-in insulated layer and improved steel clips is provided with composite built-in insulated layer and rail is fixed on the built-in insulated canted bearing plate by means of said improved steel clips at either sides of the rail thereby providing electrically insulated rail fixing device. The invention is now described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings where like reference numerals always indicate the same parts throughout the description of the drawings, in which: Fig.l shows the existing rail fixing arrangement where steel canted bearing plates are used. Fig.2 shows the invented rail fixing device by means of improved rail fixing components where steel canted bearing plates are being used. Fig.3 and Fig.4 show respectively the plan and sectional view of the invented improved bearing plate. Fig.5 and Fig.6 show respectively the plan and front view of the invented improved steel clip. Referring to Fig.l, in the existing arrangement of fixing rail over standard steel canted bearing plate on steel channel sleepers comprises laying of rai1 1 over the canted bearing plate 2. A standard insulated grooved rubber pad 3 is placed in between the bearing plate 2,and the rail 1. A pair of steel clips 4, at either side of the rail flange 1, are firmly fitted on to the - 3 - bearing plate 2 for holding the rail flange firmly on to the bearing plate 2. A standard GFN liner 5 is packed inbetween the flange of the rail 1 and the steel clip 4, thereby insulating the rail 1 from its fixing components 2 and 4. It is being observed that due to various reasons the insulation packing 3 and 5 often get damaged, broken or slips, thereby causing electrical short-circuit between the rail 1 and the canted steel bearing plate 2. To avoid this unwanted electrical short circuit between the rai1 1 and the bearing plate 2, further protecting means are provided with the bearing plate 2 and the clips 4 by the present invention. Referring to fig.2, fig.3 and fig.4, in the present invention top surface 2B of the steel canted bearing plate 2A has a groove 2C at the rail seating position. Insulated material 2D is bonded in the groove 2C of the steel canted bearing plate, making it structrually identical with the standard bearing plate 2. The insulation is provided by reinforced plastic specially blended with additive and stabiliser to protect from direct ultra-violet rays from sun and having a self extinguishing characteristic . Similarly, the rail gripping arrangement i.e the clip 4 is also modified and improved. Referring to fig 5 and Fig 6 at the contact area of the clip 4A with the rail 1, an additional insulation cap or liner 4B is being bonded to the steel frame of the clip 4A. This cap or liner 4B is a composite and integrated part of the complete steel clip 4A. Once the rail is fixed on the improved built-in insulated steel canted bearing plate 2A, with a 4 grooved rubber pad 3 in between the rail and built-in insulated steel canted bearing plate, by means of built-in insulated clip 4A; there is provided a complete fool proof insulating arrangement. It may be mentioned here that the bonded insulation 2D and 4B of the improved rail fixing device are made of reinforced plastic specially blended with additive and stabiliser or the like material as herein before stated. Hence, even if the insulation, grooved rubber pad 3 fails, the integrated composite insulation 2D and 4B of the steel canted bearing plate and the clip will protect the signalling operation from short-circuit. It is evident that detail of construction or their arrangement may be modified in order to obtain the same result without departing from the scope of the invention. 5 I claim :- 1.
