Title of Invention | A DEVICE TO DRIVE THE NIPPER FEED ROLLER IN TEXTILE COMBING MACHINES |
---|---|
Abstract | This Invention relates to a drive device for nipper feed rollers in a textile combing machines. An actuating means with multiple fulcrum points is provided. One end of the actuating means Is connected to the top nipper which is pivoted to the bottom nipper. The other end of the actuating means is connected to the feed gear through a drive gear. An internal ratchet and pawl arrangement is also provided which lies in the axle of the feed gear when the backward movement of the top nipper starts, the fulcrum of the actuating means is manually changed to reverse the feed roller movement |
Full Text | This invention relates to a device to drive the nipper feed roller in textile combing machines. In textile processing, combing operations are carried out to prepare cotton and wool fibres for spinning by separating and straightening the fibers. Combing also removes fibres below a specific length. Lap which is a rolled sheet of fibres produced at the delivery end of opening machinery is fed into nipper gripping plates at a predetermined length, through a feed roller. This feed roller is actuated by means of ratchet pawl arrangement and the top nipper movement. An external ratchet and pawl arrangement is used for feeding lap while the nipper moves forward towards the detaching rollers. This movement is termed the forward feed. An internal ratchet and pawl arrangement is used for feeding lap while the nipper moves away from the detaching rollers. This is termed as the backward feed. These operations are carried out manually and depend on the materials to be processed. It is evident that such manual operations reduce productivity. High speed operation of the machine also poses problems. This invention seeks to solve the above discussed problems by developing a device for driving the nipper feed roller with the help of a actuating arrangement for positive drive and easy change over mechanism from forward to backward feed in the nipper feed roller. In a combing machine, the top nipper is pivoted to the bottom nipper. The top nipper closes and opens as per the requirements based on the type of lap and fibre. The top nipper is driven by a driving gear which drives the feed gear in clockwise direction. This invention provides an actuating means one end of which is pivoted to the top nipper and the other end to the driving gear. As the top nipper approaches the bottom nipper plate the drive gear is rotated to an anticlockwise direction by the rotation of drive gear. An internal ratchet and pawl arrangement connected in axis to the feed roller, rotates the feed roller in an anticlockwise direction resulting in feeding of predetermined length of the lap into the nipper plates. After a certain period, the top nipper moves away from the bottctfn nipper plate thereby making the actuating means to rotate the dirve gear in anticlockwise direction and to rotate the feed gear ions clockwise direction. The internal ratchet arrangement ships during this rotation to stop the movement of the feed roller. The actuating means may be a lever with two fulcrum points provided with fulcrum pins. By removing the fulcrum pin from one fulcrum point to another the course of action may be revised. The device to drive the nipper feed roller in textile combing machines comprises a movable actuating means, one end of which is connected to the top nipper which is pivoted to the bottom nipper of said combing machine, the other end of said actuating means is connected to the feed gear through the drive gear of said combing machine, said device having an internal ratchet and pawl arrangement in axis with dead feed gear, said actuating means having two interchangeable fulcrum points, the forward and backward feed of lap to the nipper being regulated by changing the fulcrum points of said actuating means. The fulcrum points are provided with detachable pins which may be fixed to the desired fulcrum point to change the direction of feed- This invention will now be described with reference to the single figure in the accompanying drawings. The top nipper is indicated by numeral (1). the bottom nipper which is pivoted to the top nipper is shown by numeral (2). Actuating means is shown by numeral (3). The two fulcrum points are shown by A and B. the position of the actuating means when the fulcrum point is changed to B is shown by dotted live. The other end of the actuating means is pivoted to the drive gear shown by numeral (4). The feed gear is shown by numeral 5. The ratchet and pawl arrangement which lives in axis with the feed gear is indicated by numeral 6. As already stated when the top nipper approaches, the nipper plate to close the system, the actuating means rotates the drive gear anti-clockwise which is twin drives the feed gear in clockwise di reaction. The ratchet and pawl arrangement rotates the feed roller in clockwise direction resulting in forward feeding of the lap to the nipper plate. When the top nipper moves away at the end of the predetermined time, the fulcrum point is changed from A to B and fixed at point B with fixing means such as pins. The drive gear is rotated manually till the fulcrum of the actuating means reaches B. As the top nipper moves away, the drive gear is rotated anti-clockwise which in turn drives the feed gear and the internal ratchet and pawl arrangement in clockwise direction to feed the nipper plate with lap during the backward motion of the top nipper plate. WE CLAIM: 1. A device to drive the nipper feed roller in textile combing machines comprising at least one movable actuating means, one end of which is connected to the top nipper (1) which is pivoted to the bottom nipper (2) of said combing machine, the other end of said actuating means is connected to the feed gear (5) through a drive gear (4) of said combing machine, said device having an internal ratchet and pawl arrangement in axis with said feed gear, said actuating means having two interchangable fulcrum points, the forward and backward feed of lap to the nipper being regulated by changing the fulcrum points of said actuating means. 2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein detachable pins are provided for fixing said actuating means at the desired fulcrum point. 3. The device as claimed in claim 1 and 2, wherein the actuating means is a lever. 4. A device to drive the nipper feed roller in textile combing machines substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings. |
