' Title:-
The present invention relates to a process of manufacturing "Termite Resistant / Repellent -EPDM Based Water Proofing Membrane Grade -TERMIGARD" which possesses very good and long-lasting termite resistant as well as repellent properties.
Field of the Invention:-
Wooden furniture and building structures often run the risk of being attacked by white ants and termites. In order to preserve these structures, a suitable method for termite control should be adopted. The conventionally adopted system for termite control is by creating only a "chemical barrier" by using approved tennicides such as Chlorpyrifos and Lindane. A chemical barrier can be created by spraying the termicide on the required surface, in order to create a blockade for the termites. Other systems used are underground waterproofing systems such as Bitumen, jar felt, brick bat, etc.
However, the conventional systems employed have several disadvantages, some of which are mentioned below.
The conventionally adopted systems are not very efficient, that is they do not provide much resistance to termites.
The conventionally used termicides such as Chlorpyrifos and Lindane are not safe. This means that human contact with the termicide can prove harmful to health and cause chemical health hazards.

Finally, the system should also retain all the above mentioned properties between the temperature range of-20° C to +100° C.
The present invention 'Termite Resistant / Repellent - EPDM Based Water Proofing Membrane Grade -TERMIGARD" will now be explained in detail with the help of figure 1 of accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 illustrates a cross-section of the 'Termite Resistant / Repellent - EPDM Based Water Proofing Membrane Grade -TERMIGARD".
Detail Description:-
The present invention has its base polymer as EPDM (Ethylene Propelene Diene Monomer). The proportion of the active ingredients required for the manufacture of the present invention is as follows in parts per 100 of the base polymer;- EPDM (Ethylene Propelene Diene Monomer) -100 parts , Zinc Oxide - 5 parts, Stearic Acid - 1 part, Carbon black -grade HAF)- 60 parts, Carbon black - grade - SRF- 60 parts, Oil-33.33 parts, Chloropyrifos -100 parts, Sulphur - 2.7 parts, Accelerator MBTS - 1.2 part and Accelerator ZDC - 1 part
All the active ingredients mentioned above are weighed to make a batch of 35 kg as per the said proportion. The prepared batch is mixed in mixing mill as per me mixing cycle that takes 30-40 minutes per batch. The mixed batch is tested for its desired harness, curing properties etc, and then allowed for the next step of calendaring. The tested compound is then subjected to sheeting of required thickness and size on the calendar machine. The sheet thus produced is wound into a roll wim fabric liner in between to avoid sheet to Sheet adhesion. This roll is men rewound on the final mandril wim fabric. These sheets are put in autoclave for vulcanization / curing with the help of steam at 3 kg / cm2 pressure at 160° C for a duration of 6 hrs. After the completion of this cycle the cured sheets / membrane is taken out the next day for natural cooling. The

vulcanized rolls are then unwound to separate the sheet / membrane from fabric liner. During un¬winding process the sheet / membrane is inspected with the help of light for any pin-holes or defects. Also, dimension / size and thickness checking is carried out The inspected and wound membrane is then finally packed and kept ready for dispatch.
The membrane is mainly used in the pre-construction stage, i.e. it should be installed after the ground work is completed and before the foundation work is started for any civil construction work.
The present invention 'Termite Resistant / Repellent - EPDM Based Water Proofing Membrane Grade -TERMIGARD." has many advantages over the conventional systems. Some of these are mentioned in the paragraphs that follow.
The present invention is a membrane which is a flexible one. Hence it does not break due to the movement of the building / structure on which it is applied.
The conventional termicides cannot protect the structure from termite attacks from the foundation of the building that comes into contact with the surrounding soil. The above mentioned membrane can be applied to cover underground foundation as a protection not only from termite but also from subsoil / water / chemical seepage. This protects the expensive interiors and enhances the life of the building / structure.
Correct installation of the present invention will eliminate the need of termite / pesticide treatment every 3 months, which is necessary in the case of conventional systems.
The termite resistant and termite repellent properties of the present invention are excellent and long lasting.

Also, the said membrane is environment friendly and completely safe from chemical health hazards.
Since the barrier is physical as well as chemical, it is protected against water / chemical seepage and wash-away.
Also, it offers excellent water resistance properties, along with excellent resistance against Ozone and ultraviolet rays. Similarly acid / alkali resistance is very high.
The present invention bonds very easily with various substrates like wood, concrete and asbestos. Moreover, it also possesses excellent physical properties like tensile strength, elongation before break, etc.
All the above mentioned properties are retained between the temperature range of -20° C to +100°C to give unmatched performance under most conditions.
