ECCENTRIC MOLDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT DEVICE.

Abstract An eccentric molding height adjustment device for an injection molding machine comprises : a tail stock platen (1) having through holes at its corners with tie bars (2) passing through the holes ; mold height adjustment means (5) placed on each tie bar; an electric motor (6) for providing power for transmission to the tail stock platen ; a motor gear (8) ; and a metal chain (4) connecting the motor gear (8) with said mold height adjustment means ; the electric motor being mounted on an electric motor mounting frame (3) accommodating a pinion (7); an eccentric dowell pin (9) having one end fixed on the platen (1) and the other end passing through motor gear (8) and connected to electric motor (6); and the metal chain (41) connecting pinion (7), motor gear (8) and mold height adjustment means (5).
Full Text Description
This invention relates to an eccentric molding height adjustment device for an injection molding machine, also applicable to some other mechanisms requiring the same function.
Background
The major function of mold height adjustment device is to adjust the position of the clamping mechanism so that the clamping unit of injection molding machine (including three-platen and two-platen injection molding machine) could accommodate different injection mold of various thicknesses. The existing technology is to use electrical motor (or hydraulic motor) connecting with a motor gear which drives the mold height adjustment nut to rotate through the transmission of metal chain. The rotational motion of the nut will then convert to linear motion of the tail stock platen moving along the tie bar, and the function of mold height adjustment is then achieved. The preloading process of the metal chain is very important during assembly process, too much preloading will increase the tension of chain and cause breakage of chain. Too small the preloading will cause teeth slipping between the mold height adjustment nut and the chain or between the motor gear and the chain.

Summary of the Invention
In order to overcome the existing technical difficulties during preloading, this design will provide a proofing method in adjusting the preload of the metal chain by means of eccentric gear mechanism.
The present invention provides an eccentric molding height adjustment device for an injection molding machine, said device comprising :
a tail stock platen having through holes at its corners, tie bars passing through the said holes in the tail stock platen ; mold height adjustment means placed on each of said tie bars ; an electric motor for providing power for transmission to said tail stock platen ; a motor gear ; and a metal chain connecting said motor gear with said mold height adjustment means ; the electric motor being mounted on an electric motor mounting frame, the interior of the mounting frame accommodating a pinion fixed inside said motor mounting frame ; an eccentric dowell pin having its one end fixed on said tail stock platen and the other end passing through said motor gear and connected to said electric motor ; and said metal chain connecting said pinion, motor gear and mold height adjustment means.
The mechanism may include a retaining screw that fixes the position of the motor mounting frame to the tail stock platen.

This new design utilizes the eccentric dowell pin pinion fixed inside the motor mounting frame, that makes the assembly of the whole transmission mechanism much easier. By utilizing the eccentric dowell pin as pivot point, it is

possible to change the distance between motor gear and pinion by simply rotating the motor mounting frame along the pivot pin ; as a result, the preload of the metal chain is adjusted. The larger the angle, the higher the tension will be. After adjustment, the motor mounting frame Is locked in position by retaining screw.

Details of Invention
The following description on the detail implementation of the design with the help of the attached Illustration does not restrict the usage of the invention.
The structure of the eccentric mold height adjustment device is shown on Figure 1 to 5. Its clamping unit consists of one tail stock platen 1, four through holes one on each corner 11, four tie bars, passing through the four holes 11 on the tail stock platen.

The transmission portion of this design consists of four mold height adjustment nuts 5 put on the tie bars 2. An electric motor 6. provides the power for transmission ; under the electric motor 6 there is a motor mounting fame 3, one of its ends is fixed to the electric motor flange by four bolt screws 12, the other end is fixed on the tail stock platen 1 by the retaining screw 7. Motor mounting frame 3 has an eccentric dowell pin 9, passed through motor gear 8 and connected to electric motor 6 ; the other end of the eccentric dowell pin 9 is fixed on the tail stock platen. On the side of eccentric dowell pin 9, there is a pinion gear 7, its shaft 10 is connected to the motor mounting frame 3. Metal chain 4 is connected to four mold height adjustment nuts 5, motor gear 8 and pinion gear 7 in the transmission system.
The status of this mechanism before preloading is shown on Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 where the metal chain is not tightened. When there is a need to adjust the tension of metal chain during assembly, by utilizing the eccentric dowell pin 9 as pivot point, it is possible to change the distance between motor gear 8 and pinion 7 by simply rotating the motor mountng frame 3 along the pivot point. As a result, the preload of the metal chain is adjusted and the metal chain is tightened up. The larger the angle, the higher the tension will be. After adjustment, the motor mounting frame 3 is locked in position by retaining screw 11 as shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. it is the way how to adjust the tension of the metal chain.
Usage of this design is not restricted to the above description and area, any design variations which share the same thinking and principle is under the coverage of this patent.

WE CLAIM :
1. An eccentric molding height adjustment device for an injection molding
machine, said device comprising ;
a tail stock platen having through holes at its corners ;
tie bars passing through the said holes in the tail stock platen ;
mold height adjustment means placed on each of said tie bars ;
an electric motor for providing power for transmission to said tail stock platen ;
a motor gear; and
a metal chain connecting said motor gear with said mold height adjustment means ;
the electric motor being mounted on an electric motor mounting frame, the interior of the mounting frame accommodating a pinion fixed inside said motor mounting frame ;
an eccentric dowell pin having its one end fixed on said tail stock platen and the other end passing through said motor gear and connected to said electric motor; and
said metal chain connecting said pinion, motor gear and mold height adjustment means.
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said electric motor is fixed on
said motor mounting frame by bolt onto said tail stock platen.

3. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said electric motor is fixed on said motor mounting frame by bolt.

a tail stock platen (1) having through holes at its corners with tie bars (2) passing through the holes ; mold height adjustment means (5) placed on each tie bar; an electric motor (6) for providing power for transmission to the tail stock platen ; a motor gear (8) ; and a metal chain (4) connecting the motor gear (8) with said mold height adjustment means ;
the electric motor being mounted on an electric motor mounting frame (3) accommodating a pinion (7);
an eccentric dowell pin (9) having one end fixed on the platen (1) and the other end passing through motor gear (8) and connected to electric motor (6); and
the metal chain (41) connecting pinion (7), motor gear (8) and mold height adjustment means (5).
