Full Text | The invention relates to an improved food grinder. The grinder of this invention can be used either as a wet grinder or as a dry grinder. The existing grinders apart from being bulky suffer from the following draw backs. 1. Existing grinders use large areas of stones forced against each other for crushing which make the machine bulky and stone powder is formed and mixed with the edible substance. 2. After completion of grinding, cleaning the existing grinder is cumbersome due to the weight of the grinding stones and since lot of crevaces are present on the grinding surfaces assembly where food grains paste remains and gets fermented resulting in the formation of bacteria which infects fresh food grains during next operation. 3. Power consumed is more in the existing grinders since they use large areas of stone which require more power to drive. 4. Existing grinders occupy more space. The object of this invention is to overcome the afore said drawbacks in the existing wet grinders. It is also the object of this invention to offer a wet grinding machine which is impressiveIly:^r compact and highly efficient, portable and is superior compared to the existing wet grinders. Accordingly the invention provides a food grinder comprising a housing fixed to a bottom bracket, a motor fixed to the said bottom bracket, a drum rotatably mounted on the said bottom bracket and driven by the said motor and at least a pair of grinding rollers in contact with each other rotatably mounted vertically from a top arm bracket provided in a top arm housing, into the drum providing a clearence between the bottom surfaces of the grinding rollers and the inner bottom surface of the drum, wherein the pair of grinding rollers are driven in opposite direction by the said motor through drive means. The food grinder according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which : Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of the food grinder according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the same. The food grinder according to the-—Invention comprises a housing (11) fixed to a bottom bracket (14) with base mounts (22). A motor (19) is also fixed to the bottom bracket (14) and a bottom pully (20) fixed to motor (19) at the bottom drives a drum pulley (12) ratatably mounted on a drum pulley shaft (13) which is fixed to the bottom bracket (14). A drum (10) is fixed on the drum pully (12) such that it is driven as drum pully (12) rotates. Thus the drum is ratatably fixed to the bottom bracket (14). A top arm bracket (5) housed in a top arm housing (4) is provided for supporting at least two grinding rollers (9) vertically into the drum (10). The grinding rollers (9) are fixed to the roller shafts (8) and are rotatably mounted in said top-arm bracket (5). The grinding rollers (9) are mounted close to each other and drive gears (3) Are provided for rotating them in opposite directions. The drive gears (3) are fixed to roller shafts (8) A top pully (16) fixed to the motor (19) at the top through a coupling (18) drives a roller drive pully (2) fixed to the roller shaft (8). A locating member (17) fixed on top of motor (9) will correctly allign the top-arm bracket (5). Thus the drive from the motor (19) is transmitted to the grinding rollers (9). Preferably one or more pressure springs (6) may be provided to the top arm bracket (5) to keep the grinding rollers (9) close to each other while grinding. Preferably a drum cover (7) may be provided just above the drum (10). A feeding scooper (23) may be attached to the top arm bracket (5) and located inside the drum to scoop the grinding material and direct it between the grinding rollers (9) where grinding takes place. Preferably the grinding rollers (9) and the drum (10) may be driven by the motor (19) through belts (15, 21). Preferably a top arm handle (1) may be provided to the top arm housing for lifting the grinding rollers (9) from the drum (10). The drum (10) may preferably be made of metal such as stainless steel. The bottom portion of the drum is also made of the same material making the drum light compared to similar drum in the known wet grinders which uses granite or bonded stone at the bottom of the drum. The contamination of the ground material in a conventional wet grinding machine is mainly from the grinding surface at the bottom of the drum and the sealing material used for fixing the bottom grinding surface. Since the wet grinding machine according to the invention does not use the bottom grinding surface in the drum the contamination of the ground material during grinding is considerably reduced. It is possible to use number of grinding rollers to increase the grinding surface area. It is also possible to use grinding rollers having the shape of matching frustrums of cores without deviating from the inventive features. The food grinder according to the invention may be made with detachable drum or with a drum rotatably fixed to tiltable frame. The terms and expressions used in this specification are not limitative to the scope of this invention as it is not intended by the use of such terms to exclude any equivalent of the features shown and described. Besides the particular embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings is merely illustrative and it is possible to devise many other embodiments of the grinding machine without departing from the scope of the invention. I CLAIM : 1. A food grinder comprising a housing (11) fixed to a bottom bracket (14), a motor (19) fixed to the said bottom bracket (14), a drum (10) rotatably mounted on the said bottom bracket (14) and driven by the said motor (19) and at least a pair of grinding rollers (9) in contact with each other rotatably mounted vertically from a top arm bracket (5) provided in a top arm housing (4) into the drum (10) providing a clearence between the bottom surfaces of the grinding rollers (9) and the inner bottom surface of the drum (10), wherein the pair of grinding rollers ar& driven in opposite directions by the said motor (19) through drive means (3, 15). 2. The food grinder as claimed in claim 1, wherein a feeding scooper (23) is fixed to the top-arm bracket (5) into the drum (10) for feeding the material to be ground to the grinding rollers (9) . 3. The food grinder as claimed in claims 1 or 2, wherein a drum cover (7) is provided which is fixed the top-arm bracket (5). 4. The food grinder as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 3, wherein a top arm locating member (17) is provided on the top-arm bracket (5). 5. The food grinder as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 4, wherein the drum (10) for containing the grinding material is a stainless steel vessel with smooth inner surface. 6. The food grinder as claimed in any one of the previous claims, wherein the grinding rollers have the shape of matching frustrums of cores. 7. A food grinder, substantially as hereinabove described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings. |
