Title of Invention

A PALLET FOR HANDLING PRODUCTS

Abstract A pallet for handling products comprising a platform made of split pieces of bamboo arranged and secured length and widthwise, said platform being placed on a plurality of coir atlas and unified therewith.
Full Text FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a pallet.
This invention further relates to a pallet for industrial applications, particularly for handling products, like sheets and plates.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Manufacturers of metallic sheets produce sheets and plates in various cut-length to suit their customers" requirement. As per the existing and prevalent practice, wooden pallets are used for handling and shipment of cold rolled steel sheets, tinplates, aluminium sheets, etc.. Indiscriminate use of wood over the years has resulted into loss of precious green cover, resulting into severe ecological implications.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a pallet which will
eliminate the use of wood.
A further object of this invention is to propose a pallet for reducing the dead load of consignments.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the ensuing description.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention is provideda pallet for handling
products comprising a platform made of split pieces of bamboo arranged and secured length and widthwise, said platform being placed on a plurality of coir atlas.
The invention will now be explained in greater detail with the help) of the accompanying drawings where
Fig.l shows a view of the pallet according to the invention 5 Fig.2 depicts the platform made from bamboo pieces and the like.
Bamboo pieces (1.) of required length are taken and split longitudinally into two, four or more number of pieces, as may be required, A platform (2) of desired size is made, by placing the split pieces lengthwise and held together by bamboo splits placed widthwise and fixed by iron nails or tied up with strings or binding wire. In accordance with a further embodiment, an additional bamboo split (4)}is fixed widthwise (one on each side) of the platform bottom to facilitate handling by overhead cranes using slings- Depending on the product to be handled, the shape and size of the pallet will vary as also the structure of the pallet. Further, the pallet may be suitably cushioned with biodegradable,eco-friendly cushioning materials, like grass mat, straw mat, boards made of such material (soft board) or magnesium oxychlaride boards, etc. to suit specific purposes. The required ground clearance of the pallet - to facilitate use of handling equipment vis. a Fork Lift - is achieved by placing the said platform made of bamboo splits .
on required number (preferably four, one in each corner) of Coir Atlas (3) for load bearing. This also provides the platform with the required load-bearing capacity. The coir atlas is produced by placing cut pieces of bamboo in a jute bag and closing it up by stitching with jute strings and enveloping the bag with a mat. The mat is made of a material, such as coir, jute, cotton etc. which gives rise to the coir atlas (Jute variant), coir atlas (cotton variant), etc. The bag is thus enveloped by the mat. All the sides of the mat are brought closer and stitched firmly with jute strings. Unification of the coir Atlas with the bamboo platform is achieved by tying up the coir atlas with the bamboo platform using strings or binding wire and •firmly fixing in place by straps. In an embodiment according to the invention, the strings and binding wire are passed through loops on the coir atlas and tied up with the platform.
I CLAIM:
1. A pallet for handling products comprising a platform made of split pieces of bamboo arranged and secured length and widthwisej said platform being placed on a plurality of coir atlas and uni fied therewith .
2. The pallet as claimed in claim i wherein said split pieces are arranged lengthwise and held together by bamboo splits placed widthwise across the same.
3. The pallet as claimed in claim 1 wherein the split pieces are secured by means of iron nails or tied up with strings, binding wires.
4. The pallet as claimed in claim 1 wherein said coir atlas further includes coir atlas (Jute variant, coir atlas (Cotton variant) .
5. The pallet as claimed in claim 1 wherein the coir atlas is produced by placing cut pieces of bamboo in a jute bag, fallowed by doing up the bag and enveloping the bag with a mat.
6. The pallet as claimed in claim 5 wherein the mat is made of a material such as coir, jute and cotton.
7. The pallet as claimed in claim 5 wherein said bag is tied up with strings of such as, for example, jute.
8. The pallet as claimed in claim 5 wherein the pallet is optionally cushioned with a cushioning material, such as, grass mat , straw mat, boards made of (grass and straw, ie. soft boards* on magnesium oxychloride boards.
9. The pallet as claimed in claim 1 wherein the coir atlas is unified with the platform by tying up the platform with the coir atlas using strings or binding wire and strapped thereto.,
10. The pallet as claimed in claim 9 wherein the strings and binding wire are preferably passed through loops on the coir at 1 as.
11. A pallet for handling products substantially as herein described and illustrated.
A pallet for handling products comprising a platform made of split places of bamboo
arranged and secured length and widthwise, said platform being placed on a plurality of
coir atlas and unified therewith.
