Title of Invention | "A CYLINDER MILL FOR MANUFACTURING MILLED GRAIN PRODUCTS" |
---|---|
Abstract | The invention relates to a feed module for a roller mill, in particular for roller mills for producing ground cereal products. The invention is based on known feed arrangements with feed rollers and metering devices arranged above a pair of grinding rollers and has the object of improving, in particular, hygiene and access. This object is achieved in that the metering device and the distributing and feed roller (9, 10) are arranged as a unit in a frame (13) which is pivotal round a pivot point (14). |
Full Text | The invention relates to a feed module for a roller mill, in particular a roller mill for producing ground cereal products and the like in cereal mills, feed mills and other milling machines. Roller mills for producing ground products, in particular during the grinding of cereals, usually comprise feed arrangements with feed rollers for uniform distribution of the product to be ground over the entire length of the grinding rollers. Thus, EP-B-38054 describes a product feed control means with which cereals pass from a feed chamber onto a distributing roller and a feed and loosening roller. This is followed by a metering slider which, in turn, is connected to a signal transmitter in the feed chamber in order to adjust a metering gap by means of the metering slider. Limited access to this feed arrangement is provided via a control door and also via a control flap. To gain better access for cleaning and maintenance purposes, it is necessary to remove various casings etc. Other feed arrangements described, for example, in DE-PS 2011783, DE-PS 240351, DE-A-2462414 or DE-A-3404732 do not go beyond this state of the art. The object of the invention is accordingly to develop a generic roller mill, for example according to DE-C-2730166 or EP-B-334919, so as to obtain a significant improvement in hygiene and access with a simple and reliable construction. This object is achieved by means of the characterising features of claim 1. The feed arrangement according to the invention is designed as a feed module which is arranged pivotally as an entire unit. The feed and distributing roller are held in a segment-shaped frame together with the metering slider and the corresponding baffle plates. The frame is arranged pivotally round an upper pivot point. The invention also allows further advantageous designs which are described in the sub-claims. It is therefore also possible, though known, simultaneously or separately to design the other front coverings or casings so as to pivot laterally or upwardly (cf. WO 93/13857). In addition, a conventional grinding nip aspirator according to DE-A-2403351 is so designed that air entrained over the grinding rollers can be stopped. An embodiment of the invention is described hereinafter with reference to drawings. Figure 1 is a basic diagram of a four-roller mill. Figure 2 shows the feed module according to the invention in the operating position, while pivoted out. Figure 3 shows a roller package (pair of rollers). A generic roller mill with two pairs of rollers 1 arranged next to one another or two respective pairs of rollers 1 (directly) superimposed in each half of the roller mill comprises a frame 3 on which the pairs of rollers 1 are supported in a known manner (cf. DE-C-2730166 etc.). The roller mill also comprises a supporting structure 7 fastened on the frame 3 or is part of this frame 3. This structure is usually surrounded by boarding 2. A product supply duct 4 is arranged so as to open into the centre of the roller mill. Control doors 5, 6 and a respective feed arrangement are provided on both halves of the roller mill. The boarding 2 and the entire product feed means (4, 8) are held on the supporting structure 7. The feed arrangement 8 essentially comprises a distributing roller 9 and a feed roller 10 as well as a metering slider 11 (as metering device) and baffle plates 12 for the ground product, these elements being held and guided in a segment-shaped frame 13. The frame 13 is pivotal round a pivot point 14. The distributing roller 9 and the feed roller 10 are operated in the conventional manner by over-drive and/or direct drive (not shown). The metering slider 11 is also driven in a known manner, for example (electro) pneumatically (not therefore illustrated). If ground product is now introduced into the product supply duct 4, a sensor which is not explicitly illustrated detects the incoming ground product and engages the rollers of the pairs of rollers 1. The grinding nip is adjusted manually or automatically in the normal manner. If a product is being ground for the first time, the control door 5 is opened and samples of product are taken at several points along the length of the rollers and appropriate readjustment can be carried out at the necessary time intervals. The basic construction of the roller mill according to the invention and the operation thereof can be seen in DE-C-2730166 and also EP-B-334919 (designed as conventional 4- or 8-roller mills). In addition to the above-described feed module, each pair of rollers is advantageously designed in the form of a roller package already known from DE-C-2730166, overload protection 21 and tension cam 22 being combined by means of a double cam 20 in the development thereof. The space requirement can therefore be reduced. We Claims 1. A roller mill for producing a ground product, comprising: a housing having an inlet for receiving the product to be ground and an outlet for outputting the ground product; a pair of grinding rollers located within the housing between the inlet and the outlet, for grinding the product; and a feed module comprising a frame and a distributing and feeding device mounted on the frame for receiving product from the inlet, distributing the product in the direction of the length of the grinding rollers and feeding the distributed product to the grinding rollers, the feed module being mounted on the housing for movement between an operative position in which the distributing and feeding device is located between the inlet and the grinding rollers and an open position in which access to the interior of the feed module is provided. 2. A roller mill according to claim 1, wherein said frame is segment-shaped. 3. A roller mill according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said feed module can be installed and removed from said roller mill as a separate unit. 4. A roller mill according to any preceding claim, wherein said distributing and feeding device comprises a distributing roller for distributing the product along the length of the grinding rollers and a feed roller for feeding the distributed product to said grinding rollers. 5. A roller mill according to any preceding claim, wherein said feed module further comprises a metering device for monitoring and controlling the feeding of the product to the grinding rollers. 6. A roller mill according to any preceding claim, wherein the metering device comprises a metering slider. 7. A roller mill according to any preceding claim, wherein said frame is pivotally mounted to said housing. 8. A roller mill according to any preceding claim, wherein the movement of said feed module relative to said housing is manually operated and/or motor assisted. 9. A feed module for use in a roller mill according to any preceding claim, comprising a frame, a distributing and feeding device mounted on the frame for receiving product from the inlet, distributing the product in the direction of the length of the grinding rollers and feeding the distributed product to the grinding rollers and means for allowing the feed module to be mounted on the housing for movement between an operative position in which the distributing and feeding device is located between the inlet and the grinding rollers and an open position in which access to the interior of the feed module is provided. 10. A roller mill for producing a ground product substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings. |
