Full Text | FORM 2 THE PATENTS ACT, 1970 (39 of 1970) COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (See Section 10) AN IMPROVED LIGHT SENSING DEVICE FOR BLIND SHASHIKANT SHRIPAD KULKARNI of B-3/4 MARGADARSHAN, N. S. PHADKE MARG, ANDHERI EAST, MUMBAI - 400 069, MAHARASHTRA, India INDIAN national Granted The following specification particularly describes the nature of the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed: - 25-7-2005 AN IMPROVED LIGHT SENSING DEVICE FOR BLIND The invention relates to an improved Light Sensing Device for blind. More particularly the invention relates to an improved Light Sensing Device which will create oscillations which generates sound. The Application has been found useful for ascertaining surrounding light conditions or existence of surroundings by blind people. Blinds or visually impaired cannot see with their eyes. Their blindness is due to various reasons. But in most cases of blind the blindness is due to detachment of retina and hence their blindness cannot be cured and they have to suffer for that. However to alleviate their sufferings at least partially if not wholly various devices gadgets have been developed .But most of these devices are assistive in nature i.e. they assist the blind in doing the specific task. However there are no devices which in general sense the light conditions around him and make him known about that . A thing which a human eye does besides other functions .A human being gets about 80% of the knowledge of his surroundings through eyes. A" blind is devoid of this. So a device or gadget which can help him to obtain knowledge of light conditions surrounding him, then it will be a great boon to him. I have invented such a device . The device is pocket sized electronic gadget and easy for the blind to operate. In this device , light incielent on a probe is converted to a sound. The pitch and the volume of the sound emitted from the device depends upon the light condition. The instrument is made so sensitive to the light that even if there is a very small change in the light conditions immediately the pitch and the volume of the sound changes. As human ear is sensitive to recognize the changes in pitch of the sound we can know that light conditions have changed Thus a blind will now know whether it is day or night, whether the light is from tube light or from ordinary light bulb . He will be able to operate with greater safety the electrical appliances such as ovens, toasters, electric irons; because when these appliances are switched on ,their indicator light is on and this can be made known from this device. This can be also used as homing Device. Further with this device the blind will have a general sense of security. Further under given light conditions , a blind will be able to identify colours broadly. The device has been tested extensively and is found to be useful . In short he , will be able to hear light. Conventionally there are number of devices , and as such the inventor has made an improved Light Sensing Device. BREIF DESCRIPTION The conventional detection method by blinds are :- i) Assistive in nature such as sticks for walking or sensing things around him for carrying out particular specific task. ii) General sensing device, which is not available with them , therefore there is need to device an instrument for blind for general sensing about the surroundings ; which are acheived by varying light conditions in the surroundings by converting it into a different frequency of sounds which he can hear . Depending upon the pitch of the sound ,he can identify the item or the colour as such surroundings around him, which is useful tool for the blind. Accordingly there is provided an improved Light Sensing Device which is converted in the output comprising of an input LIGHT DEPENDENT RESISTER (LDR) (1) connected to Electronic Circuit (2) consisting of Transformer (3) , Transistor (4) , Battery (5) and switch (6) ; the output of which is given to the Ear Phone (7) for generating different frequency of sounds. The invention will now be described with reference to Figures in the accompanying Drawings :- Figure 1 is a schematic view of an improved Light Sensing Device . Figure 2 : is a circuit diagram of an improved Light Sensing Device. Figure 3 : shows the variations of sound frequency with the intensity of lights. Referring to Fig. 1 , 2 and 3 ; an improved Light Sensing Device comprising a Light Dependent Resister (1) which sense the surrounding light and which is connected to an Electronic circuit by cord connection (8). The same Electronic circuit (2) is housed in a box (10) the said electronic circuit comprising a Transformer (3) , Transistor (4) , Battery (5) and switch (6) which passes the output to the Earphone (7) which convert the intensity of light into variable frequency of sounds which can be sensed by the blind. Since the sensiti of LDR vity is different for different colours for given intensity of light , output of sound frequency is Hence colours can also be different for different colours identified by this device. This is an embodiment of the invention. Several modifications are possible , which may be considered within the ambit and spirit of this invention . Since many modifications , variations and changes in detail may be made to the above described embodiments. It is intended that all matters described in the foregoing description as described in the accompanying specification. I CLAIM: 1] An improved Light Sensing Device comprising of an input LIGHT DEPENDENT RESISTER (LDR) (1) connected to Electronic Circuit (2) consisting of Transformer (3) , Transistor (4), Battery (5) and switch (6) ; the output of which is given to the Ear Phone (7) for generating different frequency of sounds. 2] An improved Light Sensing Device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sensitivity is different for different colours for given intensity of light, output of sound frequency is different for different colours and hence colours can also be identified. 3] An improved Light Sensing Device as claimed in claim I, and substanially herein .described in the accompanying Drawings in Figures 1 , 2 and 3. Dated this 8th day of July, 2003. |
