Title of Invention | A PROCESS FOR EXTRACTION OF NUTRACEUTICAL CONCENTRATE ENRICHED WITH ACTIVE INGREDIENTS BY USING SUPERCRITICAL FLUID |

Abstract | The invention relates to a novel SCFE process with and efficient pretreatment protocol that achieves easy removal of bound water as well as release of active ingredient (AI) such as, lycopene, B carotene, lutein, from its bound state in the soild matrix by treating it with a water-soluble organic colvent in which AI is insoluble. This futher includes easy removel of undesirble constituents from the innovatively dried feed material by leasching with the same organic solvent at ambient presure without any loss of AI, and subsequently the nutraceutical concentrate is obtained by SCFE for 2-5 hopurs at a relatively moderate condition of 250-350 bar preferably ablve 300 bar and 50-80C preferably below 70C.This novel process utilzis all parts of fresh fruits and vegetables, say tomato skin, tomato waste or the entire fruit (without hving to remove the seeds ) in the case of tomatoes, to obtain lycopene concentrate containing 14-21% lycopene with a minimum of 80% recovery from the feed. The present process of SCFE is applicable for concetarion of any AI, including all carotenoids, eg. B-carotene, iutein in the from of nutraceuticals. |
