Abstract | This invention relates to a three way valve assembly. It consists of an outlet manifold, inlet manifold, an inlet cover, an outlet Cover and a drain cap A displaceable rod member extends horizontally from the drain cap of the valve assembly to the outlet manifold. The valve assembly has an inlet and an outlet. Inlet manifold and outlet manifold are also provided within the assembly which communicates with the inlet and the outlet respectively. A non retum valve assembly consisting of an actuatable piston, conventlonal sealing members and valve wing are also provided. Dispiacement of the rod member establishes communication with the desired port in the valve assembly. |
Full Text | This invention relates to a three way valve assembly. This valve assembly may particularly be applicable in water softening systems. However, this valve assembly Is applicable wherever regulation of fluid flow in three directions is desired. The valve assembly according to this invention consists of an assembly of an outlet manifold, an inlet manifold, an inlet cover, an outlet cover and a drain cap. The drain cap Is operable at pre¬determined intervals automatically. In the outlet cover, a non-return valve assembly is fixed which allow flow of water only in one direction. The non-return valve assembly consists of valve body, a valve washer, valve piston and valve wings with conventional bushes and sealing means. In the three way valve assembly a displaceable rod member is housed. This rod member extends horizontally up to the outlet manifold from the drum cap. The rod member also seals the inlet and the outlet of the valve in Its closed position. The non¬return valve is provided with a spring loaded movable piston and is mounted with conventional washers and sealing means in the outlet cover of the three way valve. The inlet and the outlet manifolds are provided with inlet and outlet covers respectively. The rod member is displaceable either to the left or to the right and establishes communication with the Inlet and the outlet of the valve. The invention provides to a three way valve assembly comprising an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold, an inlet cover, an outlet cover and a drain cap, a displaceable rod member with a drain seal fixed at one end is housed in said valve assembly and non-retum valve fixed in the outlet cover with a spring loaded movable piston allowing flow of water in one direction. A preset timer Is provided for closing and opening the drain cap at predetermined intervals. The inlet and the outlet manifolds are provided with inlet and outlet covers. This invention and its operation will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 shows an exploded view of the three-way valve assembly according to the invention. Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the three-way valve assembly according to the invention. Referring to figure 1 reference numerals 1 and 3 represents the inlet and outlet covers respectively. Reference numerals 2 and 4 relate to inlet and outlet manifolds while reference numeral 5 stands for the drain seal. The rod member is indicated by reference numeral 6 while the non-return valve body, valve wing, valve piston and valve washer are shown by reference numerals 7,8,9 and 10 respectively. Referring to figure 2 reference numeral 12 shows the drain cap. Reference numeral 5 indicates the drain seal. The rod member (6) on displacement establish communication with the inlet and the outlet in the three-way valve assembly. The rod member (6) is displaced from the left and to the right and vice-versa by closing and opening of the drain cap with the help of a solenoid. Reference is made to our copending application No.844/MAS/2001 which relates to a water softening system wherein the valve according to this invention is made use of. Though this invention has been described and illustrated herein above with a specific embodiment, obvious equivalents and modifications known to persons skilled in the art are not excluded from the scope and ambit of the appended claims. WE CLAIM: 1. A three way valve assembly comprising an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold, an inlet cover, an outlet cover and a drain cap, a displaceable rod member with a drain seal fixed at one end is housed in said valve assembly and non-return valve fixed in the outlet cover with a spring loaded movable piston allowing flow of water in one directions. 2. The three way valve as claimed in claim 1 wherein a preset timer is provided for actuating a solenoid valve provided at said drain cap. 3. The three way valve assembly as claimed In Claims 1 or 2 wherein said rod member is displaceable to the left or to the right. 4. The three way valve assembly as claimed in any one of the Claims 1 to 3, wherein inlet and outlet Covers are provided nest to the inlet and the outlet Covers respectively. 5.
