Full Text | FORM 2 THE PATENTS ACT, 1970 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION SECTION 10 TITLE "DEVELOPMENT OF A DEVICE - CYLINDRICAL CHANNEL RETRACTOR FOR INTRAVENTRICULAR SURGERY" APPLICANT Dr. Lokendra Singh Res: 25,"Madhulok", Baji Prabhu Nagar, Ramnagar - NagpUr - 440010 INDIA "THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES AND ASCERTAINS THE NATURE OF THIS INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED" GRANTED 14-5-2007 22 MAY 2007 ORIGINAL Field of Invention : This invention relates to invention of a machine by virtue of which Neurosurgical operative procedure for Intra ventricular Pathologies are made with extra safety and without hurting. Background and prior art of the Invention : Various types of lesions of 3rd or lateral ventricle of brain need surgical excision. One can enter the ventricles either through transcortical or transcallosal approach. Main problem lies in keeping this cortical or callosal incisions open. The prevalent methods are 1) using "Layla".self retaining brain retractor 2) keeping the incision open with suction canula and bipolar forceps or other instruments while using them for surgery. The 'Layla" retractor is very traumatic to brain as it is fixed to either a fixation devices attached to operation table or of the bony edge of craniotomy site. As the ventricle is opened and CSF is aspirated or tumour is excised the brain shifts and it is stretched against the retractor blade thus injuring it.,. ". Another method where no retractor is used, it needs great deal of expertise mastered by very few surgeons only. It is an experience that, despite of various types of retractors available. there is difficulty in Neurosurgical operations and also injury to the patient in prevalent. The necessity of overcoming the above difficulty of retractor blade injuring the brain is well felt by the Neurosurgeons. The objective of the present invention is to provide with a simple, safe and low cost device for Neurosurgical operative procedure for Intra ventricular Pathologies. STATEMENT OF INVENTION In accordance with the present invention, this device has provided a new assemblage of a latex balloon, plastic cylinders with a circular flange. This device i.e, Cylindrical Channel retractor is used for ventricular surgery in Brain. ' SUMMARY OF INVENTION . In order to obviate the above mentioned draw backs of intra ventricular operations. The present invention is a device capable of intra ventricular "operations without hurting the brain. The device consisting of a Latex balloon which is inflatable is capable of being mounted on a brain canula. There are plastic cylinders-with a circular flange at outer end of the ballooh This device keeps the incision open without any injury and provides; a safe channel for surgery. As it is very light and moves with the brain it dies not hurt it. It just keeps the incision open without exerting pressure, on surrounding brain tissue. Intra third a lateral ventricular surgery requires Transcallosal or transcortical incision and safe retraction device to keep it open. This present device" serves the purposed much better as compared to prevalent retraction system. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Fig. 1. Shows side view of the channel - retractor. The circular flange (1) is fitted at the outer end of the plastic retracting cylinder (2) the working channel (3) is a safe operating channel existing in the device to keep the incision open without any injury. Fig. 2. Shows the top view of the channel retractor. The circular flange (1) and the working channel (2) for the device. Fig. 3 . Shows device in use. The channel retractor (1) inserted in lateral;Wentdcle (2) of Brain (3) for operating tumor (4). Preferred and optional features In one of the-preferred embodiments, in the present invention assemblage a 6 cm long Latex-Balloon inflatable Up to 3 cm diameter mounted on a brain canula is used. It has plastic cylinder of 1 cm to 1.5 cm and 2.5 cm diameter and of 3 cm depth respectively with a circular flange at outer end. (Fig 1). Optional features of a single channel retractor which is expandable in diameter and specially designed so as to be developed so that the device can be used in all age groups. EXAMPLE : The device as shown in Fig. 1 - this device has been used in 3 cases of Intra 3rd Ventricular Tumors andr. 5 cased of Intra Lateral Ventricular Tumors. The device worked very well. It made retraction very easy and safe.;No brain damage was encountered along with the incision margins. I Claim; 1. A cylindrical Channel retractor comprising; a) long inflatable latex balloon capable of mounting on a brain canula; b) retracting cylinder; c) channel for ventricular surgery; 2. A Cylindrical Channel retractor of claim 1 wherein long inflatable latex balloon capable of mounting on a brain canula is 6-8 cm long and 2-4cm in diameters. 3. A Cylindrical Channel retractor of claim 1 wherein retracting cylinders are lcm-3 cm in diameters and 3-5cm in depth. 4. A cylindrical channel retractor device substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings, Dated Applicant |
