Abstract | This invention relates to a rodent repellent composition comprising low density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate and a rodent repellent which are processed together at a temperature of 110-160°C, followed by shredding and subjecting to film making. |
Full Text | FIELD OF INVENTION This patent applicaitno is a Divisional Patent Application to the Parent Patent Application no. 861/DEL/2000. This invention relates to a rodent repellent composition. Rodent repellent composition is used for stopping the rodents from damaging the laminates laid in the godowns and food storage. It is also used for water/ moisture proofing in the godowns, food storages and other packages. PRIOR ART Rodent repellent LDPE compositions are not as such known in the prior art for stopping the entry of the rodents in the godowns and storages. Therefore, around 45% food grain material in India is wasted during the storage period. OBJECT OF THE PRESNT INVENTION However, the main object of this invention is to propose the rodent repellent composition to stop the entry of the rodents in to the godowns and storages. Another object of this invention is to propose a rodent repellent composition and a process for the preparation of a rodent repellent composition. STATEMENT OF INVENTION According to this invention there is provided a rodent repellant composition consisting of low density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate in amount of 5-50% by weight of low density polyethylene and a rodent repellent such as herein described in amount of 0.25-10% by weight of low density polyethylene, mixed together at temperature of 110-160°C, shredded at room temperature and subjected to conventional step of film making. DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION In accordance with this invention rodent repellant composition is prepared by taking low density polyethylene in to a mixture at a temperature of 110-160°C in order to melt the low density polyethylene. 5-50% ethylene vinyl acetate by weight of low density polyethylene is added into said mixture and is mixed with the low density polyethylene homogeneously. 0.25-10% rodent repellant material by weight of low density polyethylene is added to said mixture and the mixture is subjected to the step of further mixing for a period of 5-10 minutes at the constant temperature. The mixture is obtained is shredded at room temperature so as to obtain rodent repellent compound in the flakes form. The rodent repellent material used is for example cycloheximide, tetramethyl thiruram disulphide, methyl anthranilate and zinc dimethyl dithiocarbanmate. The compound so obtained is then subjected to the conventional steps of film making. The thickness of the film is in the range of 100-250 micron. The film so prepared is laminated onto a bitumen-jute laminate, which is used as the rodent repellent material and also as moisture proofing and water proofing material. This invention is not a mere admixture with aggregation of properties but there is a synergetic affect among the constituents. There is also no chemical reaction among the constituents. WORKING EDAMPLE The rodent repellent composition is herein illustrated in the following examples which is not intended be taken restrictively to imply any limitation on the scope of the present invention. EXAMPLE NO.l 150 gms. low density polyethylene was taken into a mixer at a temperature of 115°C as to melt the low density polyethylene. 25gms ethylene vinyl acetate was added into the mixture and a homogeneous mix was prepared. 3.5 gms methyl anthranilate was added in to said mixture. The mixture was subjected to the step of further mixing for a period of 5 minutes so as to obtain semisolid rodent repellent composition. The composition so obtained was shredded at room temperature to obtain the rodent repellent compound in the powder form. The rodent repellent compound obtained in the powder form was then subjected to the conventional steps of film making of the thickness of 150 micron. The film so obtained was then laminated on to a bitumen jute laminate for use as rodent repellent composition as well as water/moisture proofing. EXAMPLE NO. 2 100 gms of low density polyethylene was taken into a mixer at a temperature of 130°C so as to melt the low density polyethylene. 15 gms ethylene vinyl acetate was added into the mixture and a homogeneous mix was prepared. lOgms methyl anthranilite was added into said mixture and the mixture was subjected to the step of further mixing for a period of 8 minutes so as to obtain semi solid rodent repellent composition. The composition so obtained was shredded at room temperature to obtain the rodent repellent compound in the powder form. The rodent repellent compound obtained in the powder form was then subjected to the conventional steps of film making. The thickness of the film was kept 175 micron. The film so obtained was then laminated onto a bitumen jute laminates. WE CLAIM; 1. A rodent repellant composition consisting of low density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate in amount of 5-50% by weight of low density polyethylene and a rodent repellent such as herein described in amount of 0.25-10% by weight of low density polyethylene, mixed together at temperature of 110- 160°C, shredded at room temperature and subjected to .conventional step of film making. 2. A rodent repellent composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the rodent repellent is selected from cycloheximide, tetramethyl thiruram disulphide, methyl anthranilate and zinc dimethyl dithiocarbanmate. 3. A rodent repellent composition substantially as herein described and illustrated. |
