| Abstract | This invention relates to an igniter circuit device for a fuel ignition system adapted to preclude fuel contamination from interfering with conduction of an ignition arc across an established current path between electrodes of a spark plug in the ignition system comprising an air gap (AG) and a spark plug (SP) connected in series, wherein the spark plug (SP) produces an ignition arc in a fuel to lbe ignited; a first high voltage power source (TI) for developing a first direct current voltage (V1 AC) across a capacitor (c), which is supplied as a voltage across the air gap (AG) and the spark plug (SP); a second high voltage power source (T2), operating in a pulsed mode, for supplying a second pulsed voltage (V2 AC) across the air gap (AG) and the spark plug (SP), wherein the second pulsed voltage (V2 AC) is substantially higher than the first direct current voltage (V1 AC), and the second pulsed voltage (V2 AC) is sufficient to initiate an ignition arc, and the first direct current voltage (V! AC) is sufficient to sustain the ignition arc, and a diode (D3), positioned between the second pulsed voltage (V2 AC) and the capacitor (C) of the first high voltage power source (T1), to isolate the capacitor (C) from the second pulsed voltage (V2 AC). |
