A TUNABLE MILLIMETER WAVE (KA-BAND) IMPATT SOURCE USING AN INTEGRATED HEAT SINK CUM WAVE GUIDE MOUNT

Abstract The invention concerns a novel tunable millimeter wave (Ka-Band) IMPpact ionization Aavalanche Ttransit Time (IMPATT) based source using an integrated heat sink cum wave guide mount, and a process for manufacturing a tunable millimeter wave (Ka-Band) IMPATT source using an integrated heat sink cum wave guide mount, in which the resonant-cap technique of mounting the IMPATT diode is used. The mount consists of three copper blocks , a mandrel , a rectangular wave guide cavity, a resonant cap structure, and a low pass Œ-section bias filter having different capacitive arms. Varying the cap height, cap diameter and D.C. bias current the source can be tune any where in the frequency range of Ka-Band .
