| Abstract | A device for optimisation and control of a crop shear for hot strip mills comprising a linear array area scan CCD (1) scanner with environmental enclosure, installed at the exit of the last roughing stand of a rolling mill (2) and connected to an image processing system having a high speed frame grabber and image processing card (DSP based) for high speed processing (3), an image processing industrial computer (4) with a high resolution colour graphics monitor (5),the said image processing system is providing a signal of optimized set point to the shear controller (6) of the operator interface, the shear controller (6) is provided with two HMD electronics with HMD sensors (8,9) for generating a trigger signal to the shear machine () to cut roller slab (10) at cut lengths of tail (11) and head ( 12) of the said slab (10). |
