| Abstract | According to the present invention there is provided a process for the preparation of substituted arylacetonitrile derivatives comprising contacting an arylacetonitrile substrate with a condensation substituent in the presence of an alcoholic solvent and an alkali metal alkoxide base, and maintaining the resulting reaction mixture under below-room temperature conditions for a period effective to produce the desired substituted arylacetonitrile derivative. |
