A programmable torque switch and positional limit switches for use with different circuit breakers are provided. A storage means for storing the operating sequence of the device is also provided along with a wireless system for establishing the operation of said motorized circuit breaker racking mechanism from a remote location. A visual display screen at the remote location monitors the movement / operation of the device.
Full Text FIELD OF APPLICATION
The present invention relates to a motorized circuit breaker racking mechanisrr
for operation from a remote location.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Indoor type medium voltage circuit breakers are used for switching on / off the
electrical circuits. These circuit breakers are inserted in and out of high voltage
live cubicles depending on need. While racking in and out the circuit breakers
from its cubicle, there are make / break of live contacts. Any problem in cubicle
or circuit breaker misalignment leads to electrical hazard.
There was therefore, a need for developing a motorized breaker racking
mechanism for operation from a remote station.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention therefore, is to provide a motorized
circuit breaker racking mechanism which can be operated from a remote location
for racking in and racking out.
This and other objectives of the invention are achieved by providing a circuit
breaker racking device through which the circuit breaker can be racked in and
out from a remote location.
This makes the person responsible for operation immune to any safety hazard
during racking in / racking out operation.
Thus the present invention provides a motorized circuit breaker racking
mechanism for operation from a remote location, comprising: a trolley for
mounting the mechanism said trolley shiftable from one breaker panel to
another; a programmable torque switch and positional limit switches for use with
different circuit breakers; and a storage means for storing the operating
sequence of the device; wherein a wireless system is provided for establishing
the operation of said motorized circuit breaker racking mechanism from a remote
location.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The features of the motorized circuit breaker racking mechanism of the present
invention are described below.
The circuit breaker racking mechanism is motorized and it is trolley mounted so
that it can be easily shifted from one circuit breaker panel to another.
The range of torque of the motorized device is so selected that it can be used for
different sizes and makes of circuit breakers with adaptable coupling, extension
shaft, etc.
The trolley used has provision for movement of motor in both vertical axis and
horizontal axis.
A programmable torque switch and positional limit switches are provided which
are used for different circuit breakers of different sizes and makes.
In the event of any problem like misalignment while racking in, the device senses
the problem through the torque switch or limit switches and brings the device to
safe home position thus preventing possible electrical flash.

The operating sequence is stored in a memory means of the device thus there is
no possibility of wrong operation sequence.
The operation of the device can be established through a wireless system.
A visual screen in remote location can be provided to monitor the different
movements of arm of the device.
The device of the present invention which can be used for racking in and out the
circuit breakers from a remote operation. This will greatly enhance the safety of
operating personnel and prevent fatal accidents.
