Abstract | This invention relates to a device for controlling the particulate matters and hazardous gases present in the vehicle exhaust comprising a container (1) for containing a scrubbing liquid therein, an inlet pipe (2) connected to the exhaust of the engine connected to the outlet chamber (3) provided onto said container to facilitate the separation of liquid from the exhaust and exit of the same therefrom, a sparger (4) connected near the bottom end of said container submerged into said liquid, said sparger connected to the lower end of said inlet pipe. |
Full Text | This invention relates to a device -for controlling particulate matters and hazardous, gases present in the Vehicle Diesel engines emit a lot of particul ate matter and hasardous gases in the exhaust o-f the vehicle. The main disadvantages of vehicle emissions having particulate matter are aa -follows* 1. It contains carcinogenics 2. It causes lung congestion) 3. It causes reduction in visibility; and 4 It affects nervous system. There are various techniques -for controlling the particulate matter in the exhaust from dieael engines like modifications to the engine, uae of alternative -fuels etc. However, these techniques are expensive to be uaeful practically for Indian low co«t diesel engines. Therefore, the main object of the present invention is to provide a device to control particulate and hazardous gaseous emissions from diesel engines. Another object of this invention i» to provide a device which is of low weight and is small in size and which does not. adversely affect the dieael erigi ne at al 1 . Yet another object of this invention is to propose a device which is of low cost and maintenance thereof is very easy. Still another object of this invention is to propose a device which can be used as the silencer and reduces the noise from the enginer. A further object of this invention is to propose a device which reduces gaseous oxides of sulphur and nitrogen form exhaust of the engine. According to this invention there is provided a device for controlling the particulate matters and hazardous gases present in the vehicle exhaust comprising a container for containing a scrubbing liquid therein, an inlet pipe adapted to be connected to the exhaust of the engine being connected to the outlet chamber provided onto said container to facilitate the separation of liquid from the exhaust and exit of the same therefrom, a sparger being connected near the bottom end of said container to be submerged into said liquid, said sparger being connected to the lower end of said inlet pipe. In accordance with this invention the device for controlling particulate matters and hazardous gases present in the emissions from diesel engines comprises a container -for containing the scrubbing liquid such as water or water with additive -for example lime therein. An inlet pipe adapted to be connected with the silencer of the engine connected to the container of device. A sparger is secured at the bottom end of the body disposed in the said container. An outlet chamber is mounted at the top end of the body -for facilitating the exit of the exhaust gases from the container of the device and to stop the scrubbing liquid coming out from the c.ont. ai. ner . The device for controlling part.icul*te matter and hazardous gases present in the emissions from diesel engine according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention is herein described and illustrated in the accompany drawings wherein: Fig. 1 shows the elevational view af the device; and Fig. 2 shows the side view of the device. Referring to the drawings particularly fig.i the device for controlling the particulate matter and hazardous gas-es present in the vehicle emissions haB a container for containing a scrubbing liquid such as water therein. An exhaust inlet pipe (2) adapted to be connected to the exhaust pipe/silencer of the vehicle (not shown) is connected to the outlet chamber -for conveying the emissions of the engine into the outlet chamber (3) of the device. The outlet chamber is provided to facilitate the separation of liquid from the exhaust and also to facilitate the exit of the exhaust therefrom. A sparger (4) is secured near the bottom end of a body (1) such that to be submerged in the scrubbing liquid contained in the container (1). The sparger (4) is connected to the inlet pipe (2) near the lower end thereof for mixing exhaust with water. An outlet chamber is secured onto the surface of the body (1) in flow communication thereto. An outlet is provided near the top end of the chamber (3) for the exit of purified exhaust gases. A baffle plate (6) is disposed in the outlet chamber such that to stop scrubbing liquid coming out from the chamber to convey the water to the container i 1) from the chamber . A water inlet (9) is provided with the container for the introduction of water to the container (1). A water outlet (10) is provided with the container (i) for the drainage of water from the container as and when required. The sparger (4) comprises a body having a plurality of slots (11) therein. The sparger is provided to break the stream of the exhaust gases and scrubbing liquid. A connecting pipe (12) as shown in Fig.2 is provided to connect the body (1) with the exhaust inlet pipe (2). A baffle (13) is disposed in the connecting pipe WE CLAIM; 1. A device for controlling the particulate matters and hazardous gases present in the vehicle exhaust comprising a container (1) for containing a scrubbing liquid therein, an inlet pipe (2) connected to the exhaust of the engine connected to the outlet chamber (3) provided onto said container to facilitate the separation of liquid from the exhaust and exit of the same therefrom, a sparger (4) connected near the bottom end of said container submerged into said liquid, said sparger connected to the lower end of said inlet pipe. 2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said sparger having a body having a plurality of slots (11) provided therein. 3. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said outlet chamber is disposed with a baffle plate (6) therein to stop the liquid coming out from said chamber. 4. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein pipe 7 is connected to the bottom of said outlet chamber for conveying water from said outlet chamber to said container. 5. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein a baffle (13) is provided in the connecting pipe (12) provided between said sparger and exhaust inlet pipe. 6. A device for controlling particulate matter and hazardous gases substantially as herein described and illustrate |
