Full Text | FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invent ion relates to a process for th» preparation of a reinforced diaphragm fnr ime in liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizers for internal combustion engines. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION The use of diaphraqms in a vaporizer and the process for the preparation thereof is known in the art. The process comprises in laminating the cotton fabric with an elastomer such as acrylic nitrial butaline. The fabric so obtained is then cut and moulded to the required shape and fitted with the fitments like washer and rivets etc. 1 here are disadvantages associated with the prior art. One of the main disadvantage is that the diaphragms for use in li'quified petroleum gas or methane vaporizers of internal combustion engines are normally subjected to high pressures and temperatures and also to the freezing temperature and thereby resulting in a rapid wear and tear of the diaphragm. Further due to the presence of such severe conditions. The reinforcement provided with such diaphragms tends to disintegrate or separate from the base substrate. OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION An object of this invention is to propose a reinforced diaphragm and to a method of producing said diaphragm for use in liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizers of internal combustion engines. Another object of this invention is to propose a method of producing a diaphragms which can withstand the conditions of high temperature and pressure. Still another object of this invention is to propose a method of producing a diaphragm wherein the reinforcement does not severe from the base substrate of said diaphragm. Yet another object of this invention is to propose a method of producing a diaphragm wherein the diaphragm has the required physical properties. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION According to this invention there is provided a process for producing a diaphragm for use in liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizer of an internal combustion engine comprising treating the polyester-cotton fabric having 30-40% of polyester and 60-65% of cotton with a bonding agent such as herein described by dip coating, drying said treated fabric in air at atmospheric temperature under stretch condition, subjecting the dried fabric to the step of lamination with an elastomeric compound, press curing the laminated fabric in a mould at a temperature of 150-160°C and pressure of 1-1.5 tonn for 20-30 minutes followed by cutting the same and fixing metallic washers therewith with rivets, said elastomeric compound comprises 100 parts by weight of copolymer, 10-20 parts by weight of magnesium oxide, 15-25 parts by weight of carbon black, 3-6 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide mixed with each other homogeneously. In accordance with this invention the polyester-cotton fabric is treated with a bonding, agent such as isocyanate adhesive mixed with a solvent. The treated polyester-cotton fabric is subjected to the step of drying in a dust and dirt free atmosphere. The dried fabric is then subjected to the step of lamination with an elastomeric compound and press curing. The laminated cured fabric is cut into pieces of the required size in order to form the diaphragm which is subsequently fitted with the washers in the central portion of the diaphragm. The elastomeric compound according to this invention comprises 100 parts copolymer, 10-20 parts magnesium oxide, 15-25 parts carbon black, 3-6 parts calcium hydroxide mixed with each other homogeneously. A process for producing a diaphragm for use in a liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizer for supplying gaseous fuel to the internal combustion engine according to a preferred embodiment of this invention is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:- Fig.1 shows the plan view of the diaphragm and Fig.2 shows the plan view of the diaphragm according to an option. Referring to the drawings particularly fig.l the diaphragm has a laminated polyester—cotton reinforced diaphragm 1 having a metallic cup 2 secured at the centre thereof by means of a metallic rivet 3. Further according to an option and as shown in fig.2 the diaphragm 1 comprises a laminated polyester cotton fabric having a metallic rivet 3 provided in the centre thereof. According to the process of this invention the polyester fabric is first treated with a bonding agent such as isocyanate adhesive mixed with a solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone in the ratio of 1:3-5. The treated fabric is dried in a dust and dirt free atmosphere. The dried fabric is then subjected to the step of lamination only with an elastomer ir: compound by using a calendar machine. The laminated fabric is subjected to the steps of press curing and cutting into pieces of the required size and then the metallic washers are fitted in the central portion of the diaphragm by means of a metallic rivet. to obtain th» required thickness nf the fabric, the lamination on the fabric is done in the ply form i.e. after first lamination the fabric is provided thereon and again the fabric is subjected to the step of the second lamination so as to form the plys. The laminated fabric is then subjected to the step of press curing under hydraulic presser at an elivated temperature in a simple mould. The lamination is provided only on one side of th» fabric in order to ensure that the lamination is not » separated from the fabric. The el astameric compound used for the lamination purposes according to this invention comprises 100 parts copolymer, 10-20 parts magnesium oxide, 15-25 carbon black, 3-6 calcium hydroxide mixed with each other homogeneously. The mixture so obtained is seasoned for 2—3 days and is again processed in a mixing mill so that the content* of the compounds are finely dispersed/homogeneously mixed with each other. I CLAIM;- 1. A process for producing a diaphragm for use in liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizer of an internal combustion engine comprising treating the polyester-cotton fabric having 30-40% of polyester and 60-65% of cotton with a bonding agent such as herein described by dip coating, drying said treated fabric in air at atmospheric temperature under stretch condition, subjecting the dried fabric to the step of lamination with an elastomeric compound, press curing the laminated fabric in a mould at a temperature of 150-160°C and pressure of 1-1.5 tonn for 20-30 minutes followed by cutting the same and fixing metallic washers therewith with rivets, said elastomeric compound comprises 100 parts by weight of copolymer, 10-20 parts by weight of magnesium oxide, 15-25 parts by weight of carbon black, 3-6 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide mixed with each other homogeneously. 2. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein said elastomeric compound is seasoned for 2-3 days and is again processed in a mixing mill so that ingredients are finely dispersed with each other. 3. A process for producing a diaphragm for use in liquified petroleum gas or methane vaporizer of an internal combustion engine substantially as herein described and illustrated. |
