Abstract This invention relates to a pressure control switch connected to a device having a fluid flowing therein characterized in that a housing with a switch for connecting a load to a power source, said housing having a pushpin disposed therein and adapted to impart an actuation to the switch whenever the pressure of the fluid exceeds a set value, a first diaphragm having setting means applying a force in a first direction, a second diaphragm having setting means and adapted to apply a force in a second or opposite direction and having a force resulting from the pressure of the fluid within the device and second setting means and such that the switch is actuated when the force applied by the second diaphragm is greater than that applied by the first diaphragm.
Full Text FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a pressure control switch.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a novel construction of a pressure control switch.
Another object of this invention is to propose a pressure control switch having suitable pressure setting means.
STATEMENT OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a pressure control switch connected to a device having a fluid flowing therein characterized in that a housing with a switch for connecting a load to a power source, said housing having a pushpin disposed therein and adapted to impart an actuation to the switch whenever the pressure of the fluid exceeds a set value, a first diaphragm having setting means applying a force in a first direction, a second diaphragm having setting means and adapted to apply a force in a second or opposite direction and having a force resulting from the pressure of the fluid within the device and second setting means and such that the switch is actuated when the force applied by the second diaphragm is greater than that applied by the first diaphragm.

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO DRAWING
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing and wherein Fig. 1 shows a cross-sectional view of the pressure control switch of the present invention.
Referring to Fig. 1 the pressure switch PS of the present invention comprises an upper housing H2 held to a lower housing HI. For this purpose housing H2 has a collar C with externally formed threads Tl to engage with corresponding threads Tl formed on an inner wall surface of housing HI.
The lower housing HI has a base plate BP supported on a rubber diaphragm D2. Diaphragm D2 is held in position by a positioning ring PR and and an OR ring. Baseplate BP extends through a stepped member SM into a pushpin E to actuate switch MS which may be a miniature switch.
A metal diaphragm Dl is held in position by a rotatable disc F, anc sets an adjustment or setting to metal diaphragm Dl. For this purpose, disc F is adjustably held to upper housing H2 through threads T2 engageable with corresponding

threads provided on the internal surface of collar C. Disc F acts on diaphragm D1 and the positioning of disc F within housing H2 provides a setting of diaphragm Dl.
As shown in Fig. 1, the middle part of diaphragm Dl is supported on the upper step US of stepped member SM.
Housing HI has an inlet I connected to the source of pressure, which may be any fluid. A coiled spring S is disposed within inlet I and supported by a metal disc MD at the upper end and by a grub screw GS at the lower end. A passage GS1 is provided in grub screw GS for flow of the fluid. The pressure of the fluid is transferred to the diaphragm D2 through metal disc MD.
Spring S provides an external adjustment of the set point. Thus, the pressure switch has a first adjustment of diaphragm Dl by rotatable disc F, and a second adjustment of diaphragm D2 by spring S.
In operation and upon a pressure of the fluid present in inlet I, a force is exerted by rubber diaphragm D2 in the upward direction. Simultaneously, diaphragm Dl exerts a pressure in the downward direction the quantum of such force being
dependent on the setting of disc F. In the absence of diaphragm Dl, the force exerted by diaphragm D2 would be directly transferred to switch MS through pushpin E. However, due to the pressure of diaphragm Dl exerting a force in the opposite or downward direction, the force exerted by diaphragm D2 is transferred to switch SW only if it is greater than the force exerted by diaphragm Dl.

WE CLAIM;
1. A pressure control switch (PS) connected to a device having a fluid
flowing therein characterized in that a housing (Hi and Hi) with a switch
(MS) for connecting a load to a power source, said housing having a
pushpin (E) disposed therein and adapted to impart an actuation to the
switch whenever the pressure of the fluid exceeds a set value, a first
diaphragm (Di) having setting means (F) applying a force in a first
direction, a second diaphragm (D2) having setting means (S) and adapted
to apply a force in a second or opposite direction and having a force
resulting from the pressure of the fluid within the device and second
setting means and such that the switch is actuated when the force
applied by the second diaphragm is greater than that, applied by the first
diaphragm.
2. A pressure control switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first
diaphragm is a metal diaphragm, said first setting means being an
adjustable cap rotatably held within said housing and adapted to bear
against and exert pressure against said first diaphragm.
3. A pressure control switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein a base plate
(BP) disposed within said housing (Hi) and having a stepped member
(SM) with a pushpin (E) adapted to actuate the switch (MS) whenever the
pressure within the device exceeds the set value.
4. A pressure control switch as claimed in claim 1 to 3, wherein said metal
diaphragm is supported on the upper step (US) of the stepped member.

5. A pressure control switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base plate is
supported on said second diaphragm.
6. A pressure control switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said second
diaphragm is supported on a support (MD) provided in the inlet (1), a
grub screw (GS) with flow passage (GSi) disposed in sa;d inlet, a coiled
spring (S) disposed within said grub screw and support and forming the
second setting means.
7. A pressure control switch substantially as herein described.
