| Abstract | The present invention discloses gastro retentive systems and novel pharmaceutical compositions comprising hydroxypropyl betacyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose; at least one active ingredient; and other excipeints. The abovementioned systems and compositions float on gastric fluid after ingestion resulting in better bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs with absorption window in the upper gastrointestinal tract, poorly soluble weakly basic drugs and drugs and enzymes required for local action in the stomach. More particularly, the present invention relates to the process of formulation comprising mixing of ingredients followed by tabletting without the intermediate granulation step. |
