Present invention relates to a device for, an economical way of producing agriculturally useful microbes on field or refining composts.
It is a well known fact that, excessive and obsessive use of chemicals has disturbed the biological cycle, thereby destroying the soul of soil. The biological cycle comprises predominantly of microbes, like fungi, algae, protozoa, bacteria, viruses etc. These microbes are responsible for recycling nutrients form dead and decaying matter back to the soil. Organic farming methods like addition of composts, mulches and crop residues are not sufficient. The nutrients locked up inside the compost have to be acted upon and mineralized by microbes. Due to excessive usage of toxic chemicals, the biological activity in many soils has deteriorated. Thus, supplementation of agriculturally useful microbes to composts and soils is necessary for realizing the benefits in a shortest possible time period. The benefits of refining compost have already been explained in our co-pending patent application no. 864/MUM/2004 dated 11.8.2004.
Present invention aims at developing a special purpose device to aerobically refine compost for producing an organic refined extract. As the application involves setting up of this system on farm, the operation and design has to be suitably robust.
Object of the present invention, therefore aims at developing a special
purpose device i.e. specialized refining equipment referred to as a bio-refinery for carrying out an improved process to brew extracted and added microbes, which refine any organic manure such as compost or vermicompost.
The specialized refinery equipment referred to as "Biorefinery" consists of a non-reactive plastic or stainless steel tank rested on a metallic or plastic stand. The tank has a height diameter ratio of 1-3:1, wall thickness of 2 to 4mm and a man-hole size of 0.5 to 0.75 times the diameter, with a close fitting lid. The tank
has four openings fitted with 0.5" to 1" ball valves, two of which are used for
2

looping [situated at base and 0.75 times the height], one each for harvesting [base] and overflow [0.75 times the height]. The tank rests on a stand with a box in the front which serves as a control panel. The control panel has arrangements for fitting an aerator blower of capacity 4 to 40litres per minute, an electrical pump [0.5 to 1 HP], and a switchboard for connecting the biorefinery to the mains [230V]. The control panel also houses, 0.5" to 1" diameter flexible plastic tubes which are connected to the inlet and outlet of the electrical pump and to the two openings on the tank as mentioned above for looping. Air from aerator blower is supplied by 0.16" diameter flexible plastic tubes connected to two to four ceramic or air stone spargers [6 to 12" in length] which are placed at the base of the tank. 20 to 60 micron, porous plastic mesh bag of width 0.5 to 0.75 times tank diameter and length of 1 to 1.5 times tank diameter is fitted on to a 'IT shaped hook provided at the inner surface lid of the tank. The biorefinery can be plugged to power supply by 5 Ampere socket or alternatively to back up services as inverter or generator.
Thus, according to this invention, the specialized refinery equipment referred to as "Biorefinery" consists of a non-reactive plastic or stainless steel tank rested on a metallic or plastic stand with a control panel, the tank having a height diameter ratio of 1-3:1, wall thickness of 2 to 4mm and a man-hole size of 0.5 to 0.75 times the tank diameter, with a close fitting lid, the tank has four openings fitted with 0.5" to 1" ball valves, two of which are used for looping situated at base and 0.75 times the height, and one each for harvesting base and overflow of 0.75 times the height; the control panel on which the tank rests is a box in the front, and this control panel has arrangements for fitting an aerator blower of capacity 4 to 40litres per minute, an electrical pump of 0.5 to 1 HP, and a switchboard for connecting the biorefinery to mains of 230V, the control panel also houses, 0.5" to 1" diameter flexible plastic tubes which are connected to the inlet and outlet of the electrical pump and to the two openings on the tank as mentioned above for looping; and the above mentioned aerator blower is fitted to 0.16" diameter flexible plastic tubes connected to two to four ceramic or air stone

spargers of 6 to 12" in length which are placed at the base of the tank for supplying air supply; a 20 to 60 micron, porous plastic mesh bag of width 0.5 to 0.75 times tank diameter and length of 1 to 1.5 times tank diameter is fitted on to a hook provided at the inner surface lid of the tank; the biorefinery is plugged to power supply by 5 Ampere socket or alternatively to back up services as inverter or generator.
The invention will now be described with the help of a suitable drawing accompanying this specification wherein the salient features have been shown by suitable numerals and referred to appropriately in the following description.
The drawing consists of Figure 1, which is a diagram of the biorefinery. The design is as follows-
