Title of Invention

PROCESS FOR LOW TEMPERATURE RECYCLABLE CATALYST FOR HECK REACTION USING ULTRASOUND

Abstract Catalyst product separation and recycle is one of the major problem in homogenous catalysis. Many of the recyclable homogenous catalysts operate at high temperature. This invention shows that under sonication such catalyst can be used at low temperature. Hence, this is an attractive method for many of the temperature sensitive substrates, which requires homogenous catalysis. The concept has been demonstrated using heck as the model reaction. The reaction of iodobenzene with methyl acrylate with NMP as the solvent has been studied using Pd/C as a catalyst in the presence of ultrasound at room temperatures. The ultrasound increased the rate of the reaction. The effect of base, solvent and recyclability of the catalyst were studied in the presence of ultrasound and without ultrasound. The reaction takes place only in the presence of ultrasound. The catalyst can be recycled for two cycles with no significant loss in activity using sodium formate under sonication.
