Abstract | The present invention provides a steering worm shaft and main nut Expires for tractors comprising: a shaft having worm unit at one end and threaded at the other end for clamping steering wheel of the tractor, a main nut with transfer tubes having balls for recirculating the said balls between said worm unit and main nut through transfer tubes characterized in that the bearing diameter and length of the worm unit is increased to eliminate the use of bushes and lock provided on the worm unit to save the cost. |
Full Text | A STEERING WORM SHAFT AND MAIN NUT ASSEMBLY FOR TRACTORS Field of invention: This invention relates to a steering worm shaft and main nut assembly for tractors. BACKGROUND The screw type nut and worm assembly for tractors is known. It has low maneuverability resulting in fatigue. The existing steering worm shaft and main nut assembly avoids the drawback but requires bushes and the lock provided on the worm unit of said shaft. The bushes are provided on both sides of worm unit and a lock is provided on the upper side of the worm unit to restrict the movement of the main nut. The object of this invention is to eliminate the use of bushes and the lock provided on the worm unit and thereby save the cost. To achieve the said objective this invention provides a steering worm shaft and mail nut assembly for tractors comprising: a shaft having worm unit at one end and threaded at the other end for clamping steering wheel of the tractor, a main nut with transfer tubes having balls for recirculation the said balls between said worm unit and main nut through transfer tubes characterized in that the bearing diameter and length of the worm unit is increased to eliminate the use of bushes and lock provided on the worm unit to save the cost The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows the front view of the steering worm shaft and main nut assembly for tractors, according to this invention. Figure 2 shows the top view of the steering worm shaft and main nut assembly for tractors, according to this invention. Figure 3 shows the steering system with the steering worm shaft and the main nut assembly according to this invention. Figure 4 shows the side view of the invention as shown in figure 3. Referring to the drawings, (9) shows the steering shaft having a lock washer (8) and HT bolt (7). The balls (6) are provided in the pipes (3 & 4). The said balls move on the worms provided in the worm unit (1). The main nut (2) having the pipes (3 & 4), moves on said worm of the worm unit (1) containing the balls (6). The shaft (9) is provided with a steering wheel (SW) on one end and the worm unit (1) on the other end of the shaft. When the steering wheel turns, the worm unit (1) moves the main nut (2) with the help of the balls (6) provided on the worm of the worm unit (1). The said nut further moves the rocker shaft (10) of the gear-box assembly and the drop arm (11) connected to the tie rod (12) to move the wheels (W). The worm unit(l) has two diameters A and B shown in figure 1 and figure 3 which are fitted in steering gear box with the help of bearings. Diameter A of the worm unit is fitted in the lower portion of the steering gear box(GW) and Diameter B of the worm unit is fitted in the upper portion of the steering gear box. The bearing diameters A and B have been increased to eliminate the bushes. The bearing diameters A and B have same dimensions. It may be seen from figures 1, 2 & 3 that the instant steering worm shaft and main nut assembly for tractors avoids the use of bushes and lock. We claim: 1. A steering worm shaft and mail nut assembly for tractors comprising: a shaft having worm unit at one end and threaded at the other end for clamping steering wheel of the tractor, a main nut with transfer tubes having balls for recirculating the said balls between said worm unit and main nut through transfer tubes characterized in that the bearing diameter and length of the worm unit is increased to eliminate the use of bushes and lock provided on the worm unit to save the cost. 2. A steering worm shaft and main nut assembly for tractors substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. |
