Full Text | FIELD OF INVENTION This invention relates to a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation. PRIOR ART Constipation is a common complain all over the world. There is a very wide range of treatment and management of constipation but commonly laxation and purgatives are used frequently in modern medicine to avoid constipation and prolonged use of many laxatives produce many side effects such as abdominal colic hypokalaemia. There are a number of formulations for Constipation available in the market. These are being manufactured and marketed by different pharmaceuticals. I. OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION The primary object of the present invention is to propose a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation which is cheaper, more effective and free from side effects. Another object of the present invention is to propose a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation which is obtained from a plurality of herbs and minerals of indigenous origin growing abundantly all over India. Further object of the present invention is to propose a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation which has no toxicity or untoward effect after prolonged administration in children and also in pregnant women. Still another object of the present invention is to propose a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation which is superior than the drugs available in the market as it is more effective, easy to administer and has no side effects and also its effect lasts for long. Further, it is easier to take as compared to other drugs available in the market. Yet another object of the present invention is to propose a novel herbal composition and a process for preparation thereof effective against constipation which acts as anti flatulent and relives abdominal pain. STATEMENT OF INVENTION According to this invention there is provided A novel herbal composition effective against constipation comprising 125-150 mg of Zanjabeel (Zingiber officinale Roxb.), 125-140 mg of Sana (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.), 30-40 mg of Namak Lahri (Lahori Salt), 60-70 mg of Gul-e-Surkh (Rosa damasena Mill.) and 125-140 mg of Bekh Jalapa (Ipomoea purge Hayne). Further according to this invention there is provided a process for preparation of a novel herbal composition effective against constipation as claimed in claim 1 comprising steps of: - extraction in alcohol such as Ethanol, Methanol and Water in ratio of 30:70-50:50; of coarse powder of Zanjabeel, Sana, Gul-e-Surkh and Bekh Jalapa followed by evaporation to dryness under reduced pressure of 280-320 mg of Hg at 60-70°C forming first part, - dissolving Namak Lahori in water forming second part, - mixing of first and second part with a binding agent followed by drying in a fluid bed drier for 3 hrs 105°C. - the dried mass thus obtained is mixed with diluents and lubricants such as Kaolin and talcum powder followed by compression to obtain tablet. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The herbal composition of the present invention comprising the following ingredients with specified amounts, which may be taken as an example without restricting the scope of the invention to the same. i. Zanjabeel (Zingiber officinale Roxb). 125 -150 mg. ii. Sana (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.) 125-140 mg. iii. Namak Lahri (Lahori Salt) 30-40 mg. iv. Gul-e-Surkh (Rosa damasena Mill.) 60-70 mg. v. Bekh Jalapa (Ipomoea purge Hayne) 125-140 mg. For the preparation of the herbal composition, all the four ingredients except Namak Lahori are pulverized to coarse powder in a pulveriser having coarseness of 40-70 mesh. The powder so obtained is extracted in alcohol such as Ethanol, methanol and water by refluxing wherein the ratio between alcohol and water is 30:70-50:50. In refluxing, method for maximum extraction with minimum loss of solvent is used. The extraction is continued till the complete discoloration of supernatant liquid. Total extracts thus obtained are pooled together and evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure of 280-320 mg of Hg at the .temperature of 60-70°C in closed steam jacketed container. This forms first part. Thereafter, Namak Lahori is dissolved in hot purified water, which forms second part. The two parts alongwith binding agent such as 10% of Gond Babool, 10% starch or 5% carboxy methyl cellulose are transferred to kneading mass, which is subjected to drying in a fluid bed drier for around 3 hrs at for example 105°C. The dried mass thus obtained is mixed with diluents and lubricants followed by compression to obtain tablet in which diluents and lubricants are kaolin and talcum powder. It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:- WE CLAIM: 1.
