"AN IMPROVED DEVICE FOR CONVERGING/DIVERGING LED (S) LIGHT AT A REQUIRED DISTANCE"

Abstract The present invention provides a device for converging / diverging LiiD(s) light at a predetermined distance comprising: a hollow casing, a lens mounted on one side of said casing, a PCB mounted on the other side for holding LED(s) at the focus of said lens to produce parallel or divergent light rays depending upon the type of said lens.
Full Text This invention relates to an improved device for converging / diverging LED(s) light at a required distance.
BACKGROUND
Conventionally, LED(s) are mounted on PCB for illumination purposes. It was difficult to get more illumination with such an arrangement as the light gets scattered. Further, dark rings are also formed during its illumination and gets scattered which were not soothing to the eye.
It is also known that LED(s) mounted on PCB are covered by a transparent dome cover to get illumination, but still it was not possible to get more illumination, as desired.
The object of this invention is to converge / diverge die LED(s) light at a required distance to achieve uniform and more illumination in a particular direction.
To achieve the said objective, this invention provides an improved device for converging / diverging LED(s) light at a required distance comprising:
at least one hollow casing,
a lens mounted on one side of said casing(s),
a PCB mounted on the other side for holding LED(s) at the focus of said lens to produce parallel or divergent light rays depending upon the type of said lens.
The instant invention also provides an improved device for converging / diverging LED(s) light at a required distance comprising
a plurality of hollow casings arranged at an angle varying from 0-60° in a required manner,
each of said casings is provided with a lens on one side, and
each said casing is provided with PCBs on the other side such that when LEDs are placed on each of said PCB, they are at the focus of each lens in said casing to produce parallel or divergent rays depending upon said lens.
The said lens is a convex lens or concave lens or combination thereof.
The said lens is press-fitted on one side of said casing.
The said PCB is also press-fitted on the other side of the hollow casing and is optionally coated with a reflective material.
The said casing is made of transparent, translucent or opaque material and is optionally coated internally with reflective material.
The height of said casing varies from 0.3 inches to 10 inches depending upon the internal structure and its optics.
The power of said convex or concave lens or combination thereof varies from 8 to 60 diopters depending upon the distance where the light is required to be converged or diverged..
The diameter of the casing varies from 2 mm to 25 mm depending upon the size of said lens.
The base of the casing is provided with an angle varying from 0 to 60 degrees for focussing the light at a required distance.
A reflector is placed below the LED to prevent light going downwards.

The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows LED(s) mounted on PCB covered with a transparent dome cover for producing illumination according to the prior art.
Figure 2a shows a device for focussing LED's light at a required distance according to this invention
Figure 2b shows the device shown in figure 2a at an inclination.
Figure 3 shows the signaling device or street light device using the device of figures 2a & 2b for focussing LED(s) light according to this invention
Detailed Description:
Figure 1 shows the prior art where LED(s) (1) are mounted on PCB (2) and are covered with a transparent dome cover (3) to produce illumination. It may be seen from figure 1 that the light gets scattered and dark rings are formed on the target (4), which is not desirable.
Figure 2a shows the device for focussing LED's light at a required distance consisting of a casing (5) having lens (6) at one end and PCB (7) at the other end. When LED (8) is placed in the PCB (7), it is at the focus of the lens (6) to produce converging / diverging rays depending upon the type of the lens used.
Similarly, figure 2b shows the device at an inclination with the PCB. The base of the casing (5) varies from 0-60 degrees for giving desired inclination to focus the light. The said LED (8) is provided with a reflector, if desired, to prevent the light going down. The casing (5) and PCB (7) are optionally coated with a reflecting material. Finally, this device or devices are mounted on another PCB (7a) to form signaling, street light and the like devices.
In Figure 3 signaling or street light device is shown. The said device consists of number of devices of figure 2 arranged in a required manner to produce the desired illumination at a required place.
Further, figure 3 shows source (S) consisting of number of casings (5). Each casing (5) is having lens (6) at one end and PCBs (7) at the other end for holding LEDs at the focus of the lens. When the LEDs (8) in the casing are switched on, the light rays are focussed and desired illumination is produced at the target (9).





WE claim:
1. An improved device for converging / diverging LED(s) light at a
required distance comprising:
at least one hollow casing,
a lens mounted on one side of said casing(s),
a PCB mounted on the other side for holding LED(s) at the focus of said lens to produce parallel or divergent light rays depending upon the type of said lens.
2. An improved device for converging / diverging LEDs light at a
required distance as claimed in claim 1 wherein,
a plurality of hollow casings arranged at an angle varying from 0-60° in a required manner,
each of said casings is provided with a lens on one side, and
each said casing is provided with PCBs on the other side such that when LEDs are placed on each of said PCB, they are at the focus of each lens in said casing to produce parallel or divergent rays depending upon said lens.
3. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said lens is a convex lens or concave lens or combination thereof.
4. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said lens is press-fitted on one side of said casing
5. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said PCB is also press-fitted on the other side of the hollow casing.
6. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said hollow casing is coated internally with a reflective material.
7. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said PCB is optionally coated with a reflective material.
8. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said casing is made of transparent, translucent or opaque material.
9. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein height of said casing varies from 0.3 inches to 10 inches depending upon the internal structure of LED and its optics.
10. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the power of said convex or concave lens or combination thereof varies from 8 to 60 diopters depending upon the distance where the light is required to be converged or diverged..
11. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the diameter of the casing varies from 2 mm to 25 mm depending upon the size of said lens.
12. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the base of the casing is provided with an angle varying from 0 to 60 degrees for focussing the light at a required distance.

13. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein a reflector is placed below the LED to prevent light going downwards.
14. A device for focussing LEDs light at a required distance substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in figures 2a, 2b & 3 of the accompanying drawings.
