Title of Invention

" A FLY ASH BASED DETERGENT "

Abstract This invention relates to a detergent composition comprising: i. 86-94% of fly ash, ii. 1-4% of satritha, iii. 1-4% of trisodium phosphate, iv. 1-4% of sodium bicarbonate, v. 1-4% of a non-ionic surfactant. Further this invention relates to a process for preparation of a detergent having fly ash comprising in the step of blending fly ash, trisodium phosphate and sodium bicarbonate and then adding a natural surfactant, said surfactant being a non-ionic surfactant.
Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a fly ash based detergent. In particular, the
detergent of the present invention has also scouring properties.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Fly ash is generated from burning of coal or by burning of wood. The
chemical properties of soft ash generated by burning of wood is different
to that of coal.
The present invention employs a detergent having fly ash from coal.
It is generally known that there two portions of ash generated from coal
namely light ash and bottom ash. The major portion of ash generated
from coal is light ash having a particle size of 10 to 200 mm. The ash is
removed in a dry form. The remainder of the ash, which in quantity is
substantially less than that of light ash, consists of slag.
It is recognized in the art that a detergent should possess certain
properties namely a) should be able to remove grease b) should not settle
on vessel and have good flowability and c) should have good detergency
characteristics.
Besides the aforesaid properties, the detergent should also have
preferably good scouring properties. However, one of the disadvantages
associated with the known detergents is that it did not possess suitable
scouring properties.

Another disadvantage is of the costs associated with the chemicals
required for the detergent.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a detergent employing flyash as
one of the constituents.
Another object of this invention is to propose a detergent employing
flyash as one of the constituents which has suitable scouring properties.
Still another object of this invention is to propose a detergent employing
flyash as one of the constituents which employs a waste material as one
of the constituents.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose a detergent employing
flyash as one of the constituents which is cheap in costs.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent
from the ensuing description.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a detergent comprising:
i) 86 to 94% of flyash,
ii) 1 to 4% of natural surfactant,
iii) 1 to 4% of trisodium phosphate,

iv) 1 to 4% of sodium bicarbonate,
v) 0 to 4% of a surfactant.
Further according to this invention there is provided a process for preparation of
a detergent having flyash comprising in the step of blending flyash, trisodium
phosphate and sodium bicarbonate and then adding a natural surfactant, said
surfactant being an industrial detergent.
In accordance with this invention, flyash from a furnace and which was hitherto
considered as a waste is now advantageously employed as one of the major
constituents in the detergent of the present invention. The flyash employed is
the light ash available from a boiler or furnace, and having silica which imparts
scouring properties. However, it has now been found that though such a
detergent has good scouring properties, it has low detergency properties.
In accordance with this invention, 86-94% of flyash is blended with 1 to 4% of
sodium trisodium phosphate and 1 to 4% of sodium bicarbonate in a blender for
a period of 20 to 45 minutes. Thereafter, a natural surfactant such as satritha
and present in a 1 to 4% and 1 to 4% of an industrial surfactant is added and
subjected to the step of blending.
Preferably, but without implying any limitation, the detergent comprises 92% by
weight of flyash, 2% by weight of satritha, 2% by weight of trisodium
phosphate, 2% by weight of sodium bicarbonate and 2% of commercially
available industrial detergent.

Satritha (ritha) is a medium size tree. Its dried fruits have the ability to clean and
wash. When in contact with water, it creates mild suds, which is similar to soap.
It is both Ecological and Economical when compared to other forms of
detergents.
Cost economy: The detergent is economical in comparison to detergents
available in market. Flyash as an abrasive material and major constituent is
available free of cost. Other constituents are minor fractions so net cost is low
and its cost is bound to come down further when produced in bulk.
The advantages of this invention will be more apparent from amended Table 1
enclosed at the end of this page.

WE CLAIM:-
1. A detergent composition comprising:-
— 86-94% of fly ash
— 1-4% of satritha
— 1-4% of trisodium phosphate
— 1-4% of sodium bicarbonate
— 1-4% of a non-ionic surfactant

2. A detergent as claimed in claim 1 wherein said fly ash is light weight
coal ash.
3. A detergent as claimed in claim wherein 1-4% satritha acts as utensil
cleaning detergent, a plant product as an environmental friendly
surfactant.
4. A process for preparation of a detergent having fly ash comprising in
the step of blending fly ash, trisodium phosphate and sodium
bicarbonate and then adding a satritha, a natural surfactant and non-
ionic surfactant being used as an industrial detergent.
5. A process as claimed in claim 3 comprising 86 to 94% of fly ash, 1 to
4% if satritha (a natural surfactant), 1 to 4% of trisodium phosphate,
1 to 4% of sodium carbonate and 1 to 4% of a non-ionic surfactant.

6. A process as claimed in claim 3 wherein the blending is carried out for
periodically 10-15 minutes.
