Full Text | The invention relates to a glue application apparatus having at least one glue roll (4) which can be driven so as to rotate about its roll axis, and having at least one glue application and distribution element (3) for producing an application of ink on a circular-cylindrical circumferential face of the glue roll, which circumferential face surrounds the roll axis concentrically. The invention relates to a gluing apparatus according to the generic term of the patent claim 1. Gluing apparatuses for use in labelling machines, e.g. in labelling units of such machines are known in most divergent designs and consist essentially of a glue application and distribution element and a glue roll, which can be driven rotating around the roller shaft and thereby moved by a glue discharge from a glue application and a distribution element, so that on the glue roll under the effect of a glue scraper a uniform glue application is created, which is then transferred to the labels to be glued, and indeed directly or indirectly by gluing the label pallets, with which the labels are removed from a label magazine. Object of the invention is to document a gluing apparatus which ensures a particularly uniform glue application independent of the capacity of the labelling machine and/or the labelling unit. For solving this task, a gluing apparatus is developed according to the patent claim 1, 2 or 3. A special feature of the invention consists of the fact that the glue discharge from the glue application and distribution element is a glue chamber, which is formed at the contact surface of the glue application and distribution element lying close against the glue roll and is closed at this contact surface by the glue roll. The uniform glue application as desired is ensured by the glue volume contained in the glue chamber. In case of another preferred embodiment of the invention, the glue application and distribution element indicates a glue buffer chamber which stays connected with the glue discharge, and serves for receiving a certain glue volume. Thanks to this buffer chamber, a uniform glue application independent of the capacity of the labelling machine or the labelling unit is ensured, and indeed during pulsating glue supply by means of a glue pump designed as piston pump. According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, an overflow is foreseen between a connection for feeding the glue and the glue application, so that the glue amount supplied through this connection can be selected somewhat greater than the actual glue amount yielded on the glue roll. In doing so, a uniform glue application independent of the capacity of the labelling machine or the labelling unit can be achieved. Further developments of the invention are the subject of the subordinate claims. The invention is described in detail in the following using the figures at the embodiment. It shows: Fig. 1 in schematic representation the glue application element and the glue roll of a gluing apparatus for labels, together with a label transfer cylinder (e.g. vacuum cylinder) of an otherwise (not shown) labelling unit of a labelling machine; Fig. 2 in schematic representation the glue application and distribution element; Fig. 3 a plan view on glue application and distribution element in detail; Fig. 4 the glue application and distribution element in perspective representation; Fig. 5 in magnified representation, the upper end of glue application and distribution element with removed cover plugging the glue buffer chamber. Fig. 1 shows a gluing apparatus of a labelling unit of a machine (not shown) for labelling bottles or such containers. The gluing apparatus consists of an essentially strip-like glue application and distribution element 3 in a known manner and of the glue roll 4 driven rotating around a vertical roller axis, at which the labels 2 that are to be provided with label glue at the rear and are contained at the periphery of a label transport cylinder 5 (vacuum cylinder) or the label pallets to be glued are moved, as this is known to an expert. The glue application and distribution element 3 have a strip-like housing 3.1 oriented with its longitudinal extension parallel to the shaft of the glue roll 1, in which a heating device 6 is foreseen and which forms a contact surface 7 at a longitudinal side, against which the glue roll 4 fits tight or nearly tight with a part of its cylindrical periphery area in each case. The contact surface 7 is partly curved in accordance with the cylindrical periphery area of the glue roll 4. At the contact surface 7, the housing 3.1 is provided with an elongated recess, which is oriented with its shaft likewise parallel or nearly parallel to the roller shaft of the glue roll 4 and a glue chamber 8, and indeed with a closed base 9 and a closed surface area 10. At the contact surface 7 the glue chamber 8 is plugged or covered by the glue roll 4. Inside the housing 3.1 a further glue channel 11 is designed, which is stretched in the direction of longitudinal axis of the strip-like housing 3.1, plugged at the bottom of the housing 3.1 and runs into the glue chamber 8 through a large number of openings or bores 12. The upper end of the glue channel 11 runs into a glue buffer chamber 13, and indeed, at the base of this chamber, which is provided with an overflow 14 at their upper range, which likewise runs into the glue overflow or flume 15 toward the longitudinal axis of the strip-like housing 3.1. At the top of the housing 3.1, a further connection 16 is foreseen, which serves for supplying the glue and opens on top into the glue buffer chamber 13. As shown in Fig. 3, the glue application and distribution element 3 or the housing 3,1 are held on a fixture 17, which is envisaged at the labelling unit (not shown). The holder 17 is designed in such a way that the glue application and distribution element 3 can be tilted for cleaning and maintenance purpose, so that in the tilted condition the glue roll 4 as well as the glue application and distribution element 3 are freely accessible. Further, holder 17 is designed in such a way that the glue application and distribution element 3 match the curved contact surface 7 precisely at the glue roll 4, and indeed, compressed by at least one pressure spring 18. Laterally from the contact surface 7, a further filler-like stripper 19 is envisaged at the housing 3.1. This is, for example, formed by a spring plate pre-stressed in operation and serves for removing from glue remainders or label remainders on the glue roll before the new glue application. The stripper 19 is foreseen for this purpose in the direction of rotation A of the glue roll 4 before the contact surface 7 and the glue chamber 8. At the housing 3.1 laterally from the contact surface 7, but in the direction of rotation A of the glue roll 4, a filler-like glue scraper 20 is foreseen on the glue chamber, which serves for distribution and wiping off the glue applied on the glue roll and with which, the thickness of the glue application can be adjusted on the periphery area of the glue roll 4, and indeed, by setting the column formed between the glue scraper 20 and the glue roll 4 by suitable execution of the glue application and distribution element 3. The glue scraper 20 is likewise formed by a spring plate. During the operation of the gluing apparatus 1, glue is constantly conveyed to connection 16 by means of a (not shown) glue pump from a glue tub 21, from which the glue chamber 8, the openings 12, the glue channel 11 and also the glue buffer chamber 13 are filled completely with glue. Surplus glue, no longer withdrawn from the glue buffer chamber 13, reaches the glue overflow channel 15 via the overflow 14 and from there back to the glue tub 21. In order to permit a nonporous supply of glue to the glue chamber 8 and the glue buffer chamber 13 as well as the overflow of the surplus glue into the overflow canal 15, an exhaust 22 is foreseen at the top of the glue buffer chamber 13, and indeed, in case of the embodiment as shown directly via overflow 14. During operation, the glue chamber 8 is constantly filled with glue above its height, so that the glue roll 4 moving at the open side of the glue chamber 8 above a width, which corresponds to the longitudinal dimension of the glue chamber 8, is provided with a glue application. The glue amount supplied to connection 16 is slightly higher than the glue amount transferred to the glue roll 4, so that a part of the supplied glue flows back via the overflow 14 and the overflow canal 15 into the glue tub 21 and is thus ensured that a sufficient amount of glue is always present in the glue application and distribution element 3. Thanks to the volume of the glue chamber 8, especially by the buffer container of the glue buffer chamber 13, a uniform glue application on the glue roll 4, independent of the capacity and capacity changes of the labelling machine (container labelled per unit of time), is guaranteed despite pulsating supply of the glue at the connection 16 by means of a glue pump designed as piston pump. Figs. 3-5 show the glue application and distribution element 3 more in the detail. As is evident from these figures, housing 3.1 is made of a block of a suitable material, e.g. metal, into which a recess forming the glue chamber 8, openings or bores 12, glue canal 11, glue buffer chamber 13, overflow 14 and overflow canal 15 are inserted by mechanical processing. The glue buffer chamber 13 formed by a recess at the upper face of the block 23 is plugged by a cover 24, at which the connection 16 and the vent hole 22 are envisaged. The overflow 14 is thus a recess forming a lateral expansion the glue buffer chamber 13, into which (expansion) the overflow canal 15 runs. The invention was described with an embodiment. It is understood that numerous amendments as well as modifications are possible, without having to depart from the underlying concept of the invention.
