POWER UNIT FOR MOTORCYCLE AND MOTORTRICYCLE

Abstract

In a power unit for motorcycles or motortricycles in which a belt stepless treansmission is provided, a transmission gear train is provided between the portion of a crankshaft closer to one end thereof and a drive pulley shaft, and a cam chain is wound around a drive sprocket secured to the other end of the crankshaft, to reduce the lengh of the power unit in the fore-and-aft direction and to shorten the wheelbase. A power generator 30 is mounted to one end of a crankshaft 12, a midsection of a drive pulley shaft 62 to be disposed at such position that part of a drive pulley 64 overlaps a power generator 30 in side view is rotatably supported by an intermediate bearing 68 provided on a crankcase 14, and a pulley drive unit 86 for driving a drive-side movable pulley 85, which is slidably mounted to the drive pulley shaft 62, in the axial direction is disposed at the position correspondending to drive sprockets 44F, 44R in the direction of axis of the crankshaft 12.
