Title of Invention

METHOD OF A SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE CENTER (SMSC) FOR DIVERTING A MESSAGE

Abstract This invention relates to the field where the messages expire in SMSC and the user loses upon some information. More particularly the present invention relates to Message Divert To Mail id (Divert Messages to Mail ID when user is Unreachable or the validity period expires in the SMSC). This invention explains a method of message diversion to mail ID comprising the steps of receiving the message by a SMSC From a sender UE; checking whether the message is delivered by the said SMSC to a receiver UE; delivering the message to the receiver UE if the said receiver UE is in a condition to receive the said message checking whether validity period of the said message has expired at the said SMSC if the message is not delivered to the said receiver UE; checking whether email ID corresponding to the said receiver UE is registered if the said validity period has expired; and sending the said message to the said corresponding email ID corresponding to the destination number is registered

The following Specification particularly describes the invention and the
manner in which it is to be performed

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates, in general, to mobile communication and messaging in mobile communications. This invention further relates to where the messages expire in Short Message Service Center (SMSC) and the user loses some information. More particularly the present invention relates to Message Divert To Mail Id (Divert Messages to Mail ID when user is Unreachable or the validity period expires in the SMSC).
DESCRIPTION OF RELATED ART
In the present art, the option of forwarding SMS to email accounts is not available. If the validity period of the message expires in the SMSC, the message is deleted and an error message is sent to the user who has sent the message. Therefore, alternate destination sending is not possible.
LIMITATIONS
Currently, if a user moves to a non-coverage area, there is no provision to know about people who are trying to reach them. In other words the user is not connected to the external world.
If the user has switched off the mobile and the validity period of the message expires, he can still know the people who are trying to reach him through his mail id.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention proposes a method by which an SMS after being received at the SMSC and after expiry of the validity period is sent to the recipient's email ID instead of being simply deleted. In such a case, the recipient has a better chance of receiving the message even though his mobile may not be accessible during the validity period of the message.
According this invention explains a method of message diversion to mail ID comprising the steps of:
(a) receiving the message by a SMSC from a sender UE;
(b) checking whether the message is delivered by the said SMSC to a receiver
UE;
(c) delivering the message to the receiver UE if the said receiver UE is in a
condition to receive the said message;
(d) checking whether validity period of the said message has expired at the said
SMSC if the message is not delivered to the said receiver UE;
(e) checking whether email id corresponding to the said receiver UE is
registered if the said validity period has expired; and
(f) sending the said message to the said corresponding email id if email id
corresponding to the destination number is registered.
The said message is diverted to the corresponding email id in case when said

receiver UE is not reachable. The said message is diverted to the corresponding email id in case when said receiver UE is switched-off. The email id corresponding to the destination number is registered using a registration mechanism or by sending an SMS. A provision is given for the sender UE to specify the email id to which the said message is suppose to be sent through an Ul.
These and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the ensuing detailed description of the invention taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACCOMPANYNG DRAWING
Figure 1 is the flowchart of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be explained with reference to the accompanying drawings. It should be understood however that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. The following description and drawings are not to be construed as limiting the invention and numerous specific details are described to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention, as the basis for the claims and as a basis for teaching one skilled in the art how to make and/or use the invention. However in certain instances, well-known or conventional details are not

described in order not to unnecessarily obscure the present invention in detail,
Figure 1 is the flowchart of the invention.
1. A message is received at the SMSC.
2. Check is made to ensure whether the message is delivered.
3. If the User Equipment is in a condition to receive the SMS the message is
delivered to the user by a method conventionally followed.
4. If the message is not delivered then again a check is made to verify whether
validity period of message is expired at SMSC.
5. If the validity period is over a check is again made to verify whether email ID
corresponding to the destination number is registered.
6. If email id corresponding to the destination number is registered then the
message Send the message to the corresponding email ID.
This invention will divert SMS to a specific Mail id in case when the validity period of the message expires in the SMSC because user is not reachable (Non Coverage Area) or if the mobile is switched-off.
The mail ID shall be specified by the user during registration or by sending an SMS. Also a provision can be made for the sender to specify the email id to which it should be sent (for this an option in Ul should be given).
This can be made feasible as follows:

In the Mobile Ul, an option shall be added as divert SMS on expiry in SMSC:
Ø Mail ID
§ SMS (usually text messages) can be converted to any standard text format and can be mailed to the user as a text attachment.
§ The following conditions should be matched:
Ø Server shall be able to compose an Email and send it to the user in cases
where the user is not reachable and the validity period of the message
expires in the SMSC.
Email client registration by the user
Email can be registered using the conventional SMS as it is being done in the
similar way for changing the rate plan etc
Send SMS to the server in prescribed format like “REG [email protected]
Explanation of the procedure when User mobile is switched off or not reachable
In this invention the User mobile not reachable or switched off are preliminary conditions among many others that can cause the message not getting delivered before its expiry.
This invention states if the message is not diverted to the User Mobile from SMSC due to reasons like switched-off or not reachable or network congestion, the message would not be discarded if it expires before getting delivered to User Mobile; it would be sent to the mail id registered by the user.

If user has switched off his mobile, he can still know people who are trying to contact him.
§ The user can have an option to Divert SMS from specific Priority
Numbers or from phonebook entries or any other number based on user
preference.
§ If the user is in a non-coverage area, he can still know the people trying to
reach him through this feature.
It will also be obvious to those skilled in the art that other control methods and apparatuses can be derived from the combinations of the various methods and apparatuses of the present invention as taught by the description and the accompanying drawings and these shall also be considered within the scope of the present invention. Further, description of such combinations and variations is therefore omitted above. It should also be noted that the host for storing the applications include but not limited to a microchip, microprocessor, handheld communication device, computer, rendering device or a multi function device.
Although the present invention has been fully described in connectior with the preferred embodiments thereof with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is to be noted that various changes and modifications are possible and are apparent to those skilled in the art. Such changes and modifications are to be understood as included within the scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims unless they depart therefrom.
