Title of Invention | "A CONTINUOUS COOKER FOR PARBOILED RICE" |
---|---|
Abstract | This invention relates to a continuous cooker for parboiled rice comprising: at least one steaming vessel and one tempering vessel, alternatively placed, means to supply steam to said steaming vessels at the rate of 0.25 -0.75 tons per hour at 50-85 psi (pounds per square inch) to maintain the temperature of paddy passing through said steaming vessel between 80-110° C and a rotary valve placed at the discharge end to fix the paddy flow at the desired level in the cooker |
Full Text | This invention relates to a continuous pressure cooker for paraboiled rice. BACKGROUND India and its neighboring countries are producing parboiling rice by conventional method of Kacchi and Pacchi process. This process is labor intensive and the output of the paraboiled rice is inconsistent. The Rice mills are still doing batch pre-steaming and final steaming to prepare paraboiled rice. This process suffers from the following drawbacks : Paraboiled rice produced is inconsistent in color. Cooking characteristic of cooked paraboiled rice are in consistent. The object of this invention is to obviate the above drawbacks and to produce paraboiled rice consistent in colour and characteristics. To achieve the said objective, this invention provides a continuous pressure cooker for paraboiled rice comprising : at least one steaming conical vessel on top and bottom and one tempering vessel, both conical on top and bottom alternatively placed, means to supply steam to said steaming vessels at the rate of 0.25 -0.75 tons per hour at 50-85 psi (pounds per square inch) to maintain the temperature of paddy passing through said steaming vessel between 80-110° C to get pre-steamed rice, soaking said pre-steamed rice before final steaming and a rotary valve placed at the discharge end to fix the paddy flow at the desired level in the cooker The said steaming vessel and tempering vessel both conical at top and bottom alternatively placed may be two or three depending upon the rice to be paraboiled in pre and final steaming stages in the said continuous cooker. Further, the present invention also includes the process of preparing the paraboiled rice comprising feeding cleaned dry paddy in a continuous cooker having atleast one steaming vessel and one tempering vessel alternatively placed, supplying steam to said steaming vessel at the rate of 0.25- 0.75 tonnes per hour at 50-85 psi ( pound per square inch) to make the temperature of paddy passing through said steaming vessel between 80-110 °c, and to get pre-steamed rice (Fig 1), soaking said pre steamed rice before final steaming ( Fig 2), discharging said paddy through a rotary valve to get the paraboiled rice. The temperature of paddy in steaming vessel is maintained at 95 ° c. Brief Description of the accompanying Drawings: - This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 and 2 shows a continuous cooker for pre and final steaming according to this invention. Referring to drawings, a continuous cooker consists of at least one steaming vessel (A), one tempering vessel (B) alternatively placed. Pipe means having perforations to supply steam to said steaming vessel (A) @ 0.25-0.75 tons per hour at 50-85 psi to maintain the temperature of paddy passing through said steaming vessel between 80-110°C, preferably 95°C. The rotary valve (C) is provided at the discharge end of said cooker to fix the paddy flow at the desired level in the cooker. The said steaming vessel and tempering vessel may be two or three depending upon the soft or hard rice to be paraboiled for pre-steaming or final steaming. The RPM of the rotary valve (C) could be adjusted depending upon the requirements for preparing the paraboiled rice. WORKING ( PROCESS) Cleaned dry paddy is fed into a continuous cooker from the top at required feed rate for pre-steaming and thereafter for final steaming in figure 2. Before final steaming, the pre-steamed paddy is soaked. We claim: 1) A continuous pressure cooker for parboiled rice comprising: at least one steaming vessel and one tempering vessel, alternatively placed, means to supply steam to said steaming vessels at the rate of 0.25 - 0.75 tons per hour at 50-85 psi (pounds per square inch) to maintain the temperature of paddy, passing through said steaming vessel between 80-llOOc and to get pre- steamed rice, soaking said pre steamed rice before final steaming and a rotary valve placed at the discharge end to fix the paddy flow at the desired level in the cooker. 2) A continuous pressure cooker as claimed in claim 1 wherein two steaming vessels and two tempering vessels are alternatively placed depending upon the soft or hard of rice to be parboiled for pre-steaming. 3) A continuous pressure cooker as claimed in claim 2 wherein three steaming vessels and three tempering vessels are alternatively placed depending upon the soft or hard of rice to be parboiled for final steaming. |
