Title of Invention

FORGED DESIGN TOOTH POINT FOR BACKHOE LOADER

Abstract This Tooth Point is developed to replace the casting design Tooth Point as well as merchantable forging design Tooth Point. Due care has been taken to protect the Bolt Head and Nut used, which wear-out/break during working in the field. The material grade chosen will give added service life.

ANNEXURE - A
PREAMBLE OF THE INVENTION FORGED DESIGN TOOTH POINT' FOR BACKHOE LOADER
1. BACKHOE LOADER is a general purpose machine/equipment, used both ON and OFF-Roads for excavating, loading and removal of soil, sand, debris etc.
2. A typical BACKHOE LOADER has two types of buckets as work attachment i.e., one as BACKHOE with standard Bucket Capacity of 0.24 Cubic meter and other as LOADER with Bucket Capacity of 1.0 Cubic meter.
3. The BACKHOE LOADER requires fourteen numbers of Tooth Points i.e., five numbers for BACKHOE Bucket and nine numbers for LOADER Bucket.
4. The Tooth Point, in particular, is the first component, which comes in to contact with the material or Earth/Ground to be excavated or to be moved and is the fastest wearing component in the equipment.
THEME:
This invention relates to Design and Development of FORGED DESIGN TOOTH POINTS used on Earth Moving Equipment called 'BACKHOE LOADER' of BEML Design. This new design Tooth Points do not involve any machining after forging which can be readily fitted on to the buckets of the earth moving equipment. This forging is simple in design and does not have any complications in manufacture of forging, assembly and disassembly on to the bucket of BACKHOE LOADERS, besides extended life and reduce field failures when compared to original casting design.

ANNEXURE-B
DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION:
FIELD:
The field invention is the design of Tooth Point Forging for BACKHOE LOADER machine for excavating, loading and removal of soil, sand, debris etc.. Tooth Points of casting design is generally used in this application.
The subject invention is of forging design that will provide comparatively a better strength and extended life during operation.
To illustrate the invention clearly, we have enclosed three Diagrams namely "A", "B" and "C" with Schematic sketches of newly designed forging and its Assembly on to the Bucket.
? Diagram - "A": Indicates the Elevation and Plan of newly Designed Forged Tooth Point.
? Diagram - "B": Indicates the Isometric view of the above Tooth point.
? Diagram - "C": Indicates the Assembled and Sectioned view of Tooth Point, part of Bucket Lip, Bolt, Nut and Washer.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
1. The newly invented forged design Tooth Point is a low carbon, low alloy steel forging which has higher mechanical properties than the casting design of similar chemical composition.
2. The Tooth Point is designed in such a way that all the mounting holes and mating surfaces are obtained in as forged condition which can be used on assembly without any machining.
3. This forging can be developed by many forging industries in India, who have the facilities to adapt "Close Die" forging process and supply with desired mechanical properties as per drawing requirement after suitable Heat-Treatment.
4. The casting design Tooth Points wear out faster and many times there are chances of breakages due to internal foundry defects causing reduction in anticipated work out put, besides idling of the Machine and other balancing equipment and also create maintenance problem. Whereas the forging design does not have this kind of failures. Production of forgings in large quantities without defects/deviations at much faster rate Is possible.

BENEFITS OF NEW FORGING DESIGN:
To simplify the design, process and for cost saving, we have adapted a new forging design and the benefits are as follows.
1. The new forging design increases service life of the Tooth Point.
2. Machining process eliminated.
3. Lower rate of rejection in forged design during production.
4. Higher quality levels are inbuilt in forgings, reduces field failures.
5. Easy handling during assembly and replacement of spares.
6. Procurement of large quantities possible at faster rate which makes easy for Material Management.
7. This forging design is economical compared to casting design.
