Abstract	It is intended to provide a method of treating a mother liquid separated from a purified terephthalic acid for obtaining recovered water with less impurity in a great amount and at a low cost from a primary mother liquid separated upon crystallization of primary crystals. In the method of treating a mother liquid separated from a crystal slurry into crystals of purified terephthalic acid (primary crystals) and the mother liquid (primary mother liquid), the method including an evaporation step of separating and forming a vapor and a mother liquid suspension of crystals of terephthalic acid by flash evaporation and heating evaporation at an atmospheric pressure or lower under the presence of the crystals of terephthalic acid, a step of separating the crystals of terephthalic acid from the mother liquid suspension, and a condensation step of condensing the vapor, thereby forming condensed water.
