Abstract The present invention relates to a drink mix comprising as many as ten ingredients having health benefit, comprising of dry fruits such as date, apricot, fig, raisins, pistachio and almond, oil seeds like peanuts, legumes such as soybean, rice products like puffed rice, sugar, goose berry etc., which are dried and powdered which can be made into drink by dispersing with milk or water or juice at ambient or at hot conditions and consists of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and provide about 400 Kcal 7100 g.

The product is an effective drink mix in a powdered form, which can be made into a drink by dispersing with milk, juice or water either in hot or at normal ambient conditions.
Drink mixes having nutritional and health benefits have been prepared and few are available in the market. These mixes are in powdery form and have dispersibility in liquid media such as milk or water and could be consumed in hot or cold conditions. The product of the present invention consists of dry fruits, legumes, nuts, oilseeds, cereals, sweeteners, etc., having nutritional and health benefits and could be consumed as a drink along with milk, juice or water.
Reference may be made to Noll, et.al, 2000, USP 6,133,237, wherein drink mix compositions containing 10-99% psyllium husk, 0-89% of carrier materials selected from maltodextrin, 0.5 to 25% of edible acid, 0.5 to 25% of granulated less water soluble base selected from calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium oxide, and mixtures, sweetening agents, flavors, colors and others were prepared.
Reference may also may be made to Diehl, S., 1999, USP 5,942,550, wherein cholesterol lowering drink mix composition mixable with liquid to form a suspension was prepared by agglomeration of fine grade xanthan gum (0.01 to 1.25 g) and therapeutically effective dose of an anion exchange resin, cholestyramine with maltodextrin, sucrose or mixtures thereof.
Reference may be made to Takaichi, A, et.al., 1995, USP 5,437,880, wherein a health drink composition comprising of 1-30 g/100 ml of a hardly digestible saccharide and 0.5 to 30

mg/100ml of carotenoid as essential ingredients, 0.5 to 20 mg/100 ml of viatmin E and 10-1000 mg/100 ml of vitamin C, emulsifier and 1-20g/100 ml of natural carbohydrate.
Reference may also be made to Koga, K.et.al., 1999, USP 5,976,606, wherein process for producing docosahexaenoic acid containing tofu or soybean milk drink or a dry powder was patented.
Reference may also be made to Kuhrts.E. 1992, USP 5,118,510, wherein niacin drink mix composition prepared which can be made into a drinkable dispersion by admixture with water or another liquid composition , granules consisting of a blend of mineral salts, edible acid, and a gel forming dietary fiber, coated with starch or protein, wherein an orally ingestible pharmaceutically active compound niacin is included in granules.
The drawbacks of the above referred patents are mixes prepared are from resins, gums, acids, husks, sweetening agents, starch derivative etc. The present invention relates to a drink mix comprising as many as 10 ingredients having health benefits, comprising of dry fruits such as dates, apricots, figs, raisins, pistachio and almonds, oilseeds like peanuts, legumes such as soybean, rice products like puffed rice, sugar, gooseberry etc., which are dried and powdered, which can be made into a drink by dispersing with milk or water or juice at ambient or hot conditions and consists of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and provides about 400 Kcal/100g. Both formulations and process parameters of the present invention differ from those of patented literature.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a composition useful for preparation of nutritious health drink, which obviates the drawbacks as detailed above.
Another object of the invention is to prepare powdered drink mix comprising dry fruits, cereals, soybean, sugars and others, which could be made into a drink by dispersing in any liquid media, such as milk, water or juice.
The novelty of the present invention is to select the ingredients in right proportion mentioned and within the moisture contents specified, at which the composition could be

processed efficiently. If the proportions are outside the range specified, there may be difficulties in processing, especially during pulverising, wherein the material may not pass through the machine and may form lumps. In addition, the processing steps, like drying need to be followed to get the composition with good appearance and having good machinability during processing. The time and temperature during drying should be within the limits specified, if not the materials will become dark and also may impart difficulties in processing, especially during pulverising. All the ingredients, especially puffed rice and soybean are to mixed thoroughly with other ingredients during pulverizing, if not the material may not pass through the machine and form lumps and the ingredients, especially the dry fruits should not be passed through pulverizer without mixing with puffed rice and soybeans. Also, the material after processing should not be exposed to the atmosphere, wherein it may pick up moisture and form lumps.
Accordingly, a process for the preparation of a nutritious health drink composition, the said process comprising the ingredients, steps of: a) weighing the ingredients 7-8% Apricots, 4-5% Peanuts and cashewnuts, 7-8%Dry dates, 1-2% Dried gooseberry, 8-10% Roasted pistachio nuts, 10-11% Soybeans, 4-5% Figs, 25-30% Sugar, 5-7% Almonds, 13-15% Puffed rice , 2-4%Raisins, 2-4% Essence, all in % by fresh weight basis on fresh wt basis b) removal of seeds from selected ingredients by manually or mechanically, c) blanching of few selected ingredients in hot water at 90-95°C for 5 to 10 seconds, d) drying the selected ingredients in a conventional hot air dryer at 60-80°C, e) roasting of few selected ingredients mechanically; g) pulverising of
all the ingredients to a particle size of 30-60 mesh, except flavors in a mechanical

pulveriser; h) blending the ground ingredients with flavors in a planetary mixer to obtain the said
health drink composition


In yet another embodiment of the present invention the composition preferably consists of 10-15% protein, 5-15% fat, 60-75% total carbohydrates, 5-10% dietary fiber, 100-120 mg/100g of calcium and provides energy 300-400Kcal/100g.

In yet another embodiment of the present invention the seeds from dates and apricots and husk from pistachio nuts may be removed manually or mechanically.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention the fresh ingredients selected consist of moisture content: dates (after removal of seeds), 10-15%; apricots (after removal of seeds), 15-20%; pistachio (after removal of husk), 2-5%; Figs, 15-30%; raisins, 15-25%; almonds, 4-6%; cashewnuts, 3-5%; peanuts, 5-8%; soybean, 10-15%; gooseberry, 10-15%. In yet another embodiment of the present invention the husk from almonds and soybeans are removed manually after soaking in water for 3-4 hr and 12-15 hr respectively. In yet another embodiment of the present invention the raw materials are dried in a conventional dryer (hot air oven) preferably at 70-80°C for 6-8 hr.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention all the ingredients after drying were milled in two stage hammer mill to get a granular powder having preferably 50-60 mesh size. In yet another embodiment of the present invention final powdery mass was blended in a planetary mixer and flavor was incorporated.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention is a powdered mass and consists of moisture content of preferably 3-8%.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention the final powdered mass is stored in air tight containers selected from HOPE, LDPE, glass jars and tins/cans.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the composition when taken may provide essential nutrients like: Protein, 10-15%, Fat 5-15%,
Carbohydrates, 60-75%, Dietary fiber 5-10%, Calcium 100-120 mg/100 g, Energy, 350-400 Kcal/100 g.

In another embodiment of the present invention, the granular powdery product may be stored in air tight containers such as HOPE, LDPE, glass bottles/jars, tins/cans.
The functional drink mix of the present invention is in the form of a powder, which can be made into a drink by dispersing in milk, or water or juice in cold or in hot condition. This can be consumed as a drink with any of the liquid materials mentioned. The product is stable for over 2 months in HOPE jars.

The composition of the present invention is prepared from a variety of naturally occurring raw materials, which are made into granular form, which can be made into a drink by dispersing in any liquid media, such as milk, juice or water and provides not only essential nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, fats but also provides vitamin C, iron, calcium and provides energy of 300-400 Kcal/100g.
The following examples are given by way of illustration of the present invention and therefore should not be construed to limit the scope of the present invention.
Example 1
The raw materials are procured and weighed according the formulation given under (Fresh wt. basis, g):
Apricots: 152; Roasted cashewnuts: 92;
Dates: 152; Roasted peanuts: 92;
Pistachio nuts 180; Dried gooseberry: 28;
Figs: 80; Soybean: 200;
Dried almonds: 120; Sugar: 500;
Raisins: 60; Puffed rice: 60;
Raspberry flavor 3.
Seeds are removed manually from dates and apricots and husk from pistachio. Almonds and soybeans are soaked in water for 3 and overnight (15 hr) respectively and the husk was removed from these manually. Dates, apricots, figs, raisins are blanched in hot water at 90-95°C for 5-10 seconds and then blanched and dehusked materials are air dried for about 2 hr at normal ambient conditions (25°C). Dates, apricots, figs, pistachio, soybean and almonds are dried in a hot air oven at about 70°C for 8 hr. Peanuts, cashewnuts and dried soybeans are
roasted in a drum roaster (150°C for 10-15 min) till typical roasted aroma is developed. The husk and germ from roasted peanuts are removed. All the ingredients are mixed and subjected to grinding using a hammer mill taking care to feed the material slowly and after thorough mixing by using coarse and fine sieves successively. The resulting powder was then mixed in a planetary mixer using a mesh like blade for intimate mixing all the ingredients and at this stage flavor was incorporated and mixed thoroughly. Then the powder was bottled in HOPE jars. The final granular powdery product provides about 400 Kcal of energy and if it is taken as a drink in water, it provides 60-120 Kcal depending on the size of the serve (15 or 30 g).
Example 2

Apricots: 125; Roasted cashewnuts: 75;
Dates: 125; Roasted peanuts: 75;

Figs: 75; Soybean: 175;
Dried almonds: 100; Sugar: 500;
Raisins: 50; Puffed rice: 250;
Raspberry flavor 2.5

Commercially available raw materials are procured and weighed (fresh wt basis) according the formulation given under (Fresh wt basis, g):

Figs: 75; Soybean: 220;
Dried almonds: 105; Sugar: 450;
Raisins: 60; Puffed rice: 225;

The moisture content of the final product ranges from 3-8%. Particle size: passing through 3 mesh - 90-95%; passing through 60 mesh - 70-80%. Moisture increase after 2 months stored at ambient temperature in HOPE jars is 3-5%.
The advantages of the present innvention are:
1. The ingredients need to be taken in right proportion mentioned to impart good
machinability during processing. If the ingredients are taken outside the range specified, the
difficulties may be envisaged during processing, especially during pulverising, wherein the
material may not pass through the machine and form lumps.
2. The materials need to be dried to a correct moisture content and at right temperature
specified, if not the material may become dark and may generate problems during processing.
3. All the ingredients need to be mixed thoroughly during pulverizing, especially the dry
fruits and puffed rice and soybeans. If the ingredients especially the dry fruits are not mixed with
puffed rice and soybeans, the material may not pass through the pulverizer and form lumps.
4. The material after processing should not be exposed to the atmosphere, wherein it
picks up moisture and form lumps.
The nutritious composition of the present invention can be easily dispersible with any liquid, preferable milk, or juice or water and consisting of essential nutrients such as protein, fat, carbohydrates and minerals and provides an energy of about 400 K Cal/100g.



We claim:
1. A process for the preparation of a nutritious health drink composition, the said process comprising the ingredients, steps of: a) weighing the ingredients 7-8% Apricots, 4-5% Peanuts and cashewnuts, 7-8%Dry dates, 1-2% Dried gooseberry, 8-10% Roasted pistachio nuts, 10-11% Soybeans, 4-5% Figs, 25-30% Sugar, 5-7% Almonds, 13-15% Puffed rice , 2-4%Raisins, 2-4% Essence, all in % by fresh weight basis on fresh wt basis b) removal of seeds from selected ingredients1 by manually or mechanically, c) blanching of few selected ingredients in hot water at 90-95°C for 5 to 10 seconds, d) drying the'.selected ingredients in a conventional hot air dryer at 60-80°C, e) roasting of few selected ingredients mechanically; g) pulverising of all the ingredients to a particle size of 30-60 mesh, except flavors in a mechanical pulveriser; h) blending theiground

ingredients with flavors in a planetary mixer to obtain the and said nutritions health drink compositionl

2. (A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition preferably consists of 10-15%

protein, 5-15% fat, 60-75% total carbohydrates, 5-10% dietary fiber, 100-120 mg/100g of

calcium and provides energy 300-400Kcal/100g.


3. A process as claimed in claims 1 & 2, wherein the seeds from dates and apricots and husk
from pistachio nuts may be removed manually or mechanically.
4. A process as claimed in claims 1-3, wherein the fresh ingredients selected consist of
moisture content: dates (after removal of seeds), 10-15%; apricots (after removal of seeds), 15-20%; pistachio (after removal of husk), 2-5%; Figs, 15-30%; raisins, 15-25%; almonds, 4-6%; cashewnuts, 3-5%; peanuts, 5-8%; soybean, 10-15%; gooseberry, 10-15%.
5. A process as claimed in claim 1-4, wherein the husk from almonds and soybeans are
removed manually after soaking in water for 3-4 hr and 12-15 hr respectively. 6. A process as claimed in claim 1- 5, wherein the raw materials are dried in a conventional dryer (hot air oven) preferably at 70-80°C for 6-8 hr.

7. A process as claimed in claim 1 - 6, wherein all the ingredients after drying were milled in
two stage hammer mill to get a granular powder having preferably 50-60 mesh size.
8. A process as claimed in claims 1- 7, wherein final powdery mass was blended in a planetary
mixer and flavor was incorporated.
9. A composition as claimed in claims 1- 8, is a powdered mass and consists of moisture
content of preferably 3-8%.
10 A proess as claimed in claim 1-9 wherein the final powdered mass is- stored in air tight
containers seleclecd from HDPE, LDPE, glass jars and cans.
11. A process for the preparation of a nutritious health drink composition substantially as herein
described with reference to the examples.
