Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an apparatus for causing a plasticization of wood of bent articles.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION.
Patent application no.2409/Del/98 describes a process and apparatus for wood plasitcization for making of bent wood furniture and other articles therefrom. The apparatus comprises a single chamber having a first inlet connected to a vacuum pump. An ammonia storage tank is connected to a second inlet of the chamber for introduction of ammonia gas thereto for causing a plasticization of wood disposed within said chamber. The spent or residual gas, after treatment, is discharged from said chamber into a water storage tank and thus it is wasted.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a modified and improved construction of an apparatus for plasticization of wood and wherein the residual and or spent ammonia is utilized.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided an apparatus for causing a plasticization of wood of bent articles characterized in that at least two chambers having wood and each chamber having a first inlet to be connected to a vacuum pump, a second inlet being provided with each chamber for connecting an ammonia gas source for the introduction of ammonia into said chambers, a compressor connected to said chambers to allow an evacuation and recirculation of the residual or spent ammonia gas from one chamber to the other chamber.
In accordance with this invention, the apparatus for causing a plasticization comprises at least two chambers. Preferably, the chamber are of different lengths so as to treat logs of wood of different length. Each of said chambers is connected to a vacuum pump so as to created vacuum in the treatment chambers. Further, each of said chambers is connected to an ammonia source, such as an ammonia gas cylinder for supplying ammonia gas into said chambers for treating the wood with ammonia. A compressor is provided between said chambers for causing an evacuation of the spent or residual ammonia and re-circulation of the spent ammonia from one chamber of the other.

In operation, one of the treatment chambers is loaded with strips or logs of wood, and vacuum is then created in such a chamber. Ammonia gas is then introduced into working chamber. Upon completion of treatment, the residual or spent gas is evacuated into the other chamber through a /compressor.
An apparatus for use for wood plasticization for making of bent wood furniture according to a preferred embodiment is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings: -Fig. 1 shows the plan view of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings figure 1 the apparatus has a treatment chamber 1 preferably of different sizes for accommodating the logs of the wood of different sizes therein to be treated for making the bent furniture. A vacuum/pressure gauge 2 is provided with each chamber for measuring the vacuum and subsequently the pressure into the treatment chambers 1. A first inlet 1A is provided with each chamber 1 for connecting the chambers 1 and to a vacuum pump 4 by means of connecting pipes 8A and needle valves 8. A 2nd inlet IB is provided with each cylinder for connecting said cylinders with an ammonia gas

source for example an ammonia gas cylinder 5 by means of connecting pipes 8 A having needle valves 8. An ammonia gas pressure regulator valves 6 is provided at the outlet of the ammonia gas cylinder for regulating the pressure of ammonia gas into the treatment chambers 1 and ammonia gas compressor 7 is connected with the treatment chambers 1 such that to evacuate the residual or spent ammonia gas from one cylinder and recirculate the same into the other cylinder and vice a versa.
During the operation of the device the logs of wood are placed in the treatment chamber of the required size and a vacuum is created into the treatment chamber. The ammonia gas is then supplied into said chamber upto a pressure required for treatment of the logs of wood after the completion of the treatment. The ammonia gas is evacuated from the treatment chamber and is re-circulated into the other treatment chamber for its further use for treating the logs of wood.
Thus it is seen that by using the apparatus of the present invention the residual ammonia or spent ammonia gas is utilized again and again and the wastage of the gas is minimized.



WE CLAIM;
1. An apparatus for causing a plasticization of wood of bent
articles characterized in that at least two chambers having
wood and each chamber having a first inlet to be connected to a
vacuum pump, a second inlet being provided with each
chamber for connecting an ammonia gas source for the
introduction of ammonia into said chambers, a compressor
connected to said chambers to allow an evacuation and
recirculation of the residual or spent ammonia gas from one
chamber to the other chamber.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said vacuum
pump and ammonia gas source are connected with said
chambers by means of connecting pipes having needle valves
such that to supply ammonia gas or to create the vacuum in
the treatment chamber required for treatment of the wood.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said compressor
having connecting means provided with needle valves is
connected to both the treatment chamber such that to evacuate
and recirculate the spent or residual ammonia gas from one
treatment chamber to other treatment chamber.
4. An apparatus for causing a plasticization of wood of bent
articles substantially as herein described and illustrated.
